Seems to be a good defensive mind and has a lot of folks copying the 3-3-3 defense he’s installed up in Ames. Wonder if anyone tries to steal him away.

Having 9 defensive players doesn’t seem like a strategy that’ll work in the SEC

Couldn't be any worse than the defense Pelini put out this year.

And in a 4-3 or 3-4 you only have 7 on the field, right? Heacock’s defense is like an odd dime look with 3 safeties. Similar to a 3-3-5 personnel wise but 3 safeties over the top.

3-3-5 is a terrible defense. Big 12 teams run it
WVU
Houston
Iowa St
Baylor (Rule ran it)

It isn’t the same 3-3-5 scheme of years past. When you’ve got guys like Venables and Belichick copying from you, you’re probably doing something right.

This dumbass still probably thinks the 4-6 Defense the '85 Bear ran is the superior defensive front to run in CFB

Do you realize how improved the WVU defense is this year?? Like frick.. how can y'all be so fricking ignorant ?

Venables runs a 4-3 base. Belichick runs a 3-4 base
Throwing in a 3-3-5 on certain downs is fine.
Running it as a base defense is moronic.... name a consistent top 5 defense in the country that runs that.

If it's such a great fricking defense why isn't saban, Kirby, day, dabo, Riley, cristibol, Wisconsin, auburn, Florida, etc running it as a base?

It was the most successful defense against the 2019 LSU team. Its what Auburn held them to 20 or 23 (don't remember the final score) pts with.
Problem is you have to have a fantastic front 3 for it to be successful. Clemson tried it (after seeing AU be effective with it) and had a little success until they were worn down midway through the 2nd qtr in the championship game.

Coach O is not leaving the 4-3 , that was the promise to Smith.

He ahs been with Campbell a long time and has little interest in moving.

Looks like he was previously a HC at YSU. If Campbell leaves do you think he follows or would he be a candidate to replace him in Ames?

it did have some success against us in 19 but I think it was a combo of the weather that day, our shite field, and Bo Nix being utter trash. We knew he wasn't going to beat us so O went safe

Miss state runs it and their defense is pretty good

Campbell leaving is less than 10%. He was wishing to be in Ames before he got here and has put down some pretty good roots. Plus talent wise he is just getting "his" players in their Jr and RS Soph years. Yes this year's seniors is his first class but that was a short cycle.
Ohio State is probably his ultimate dream job but they are pretty set coaching wise.
As far as IF he was to leave would Heacock be the replacement? I doubt it. Pollard (AD) usually goes outside for new hires.

If you can get a rush with 3 guys you can do whatever you want

JC I'm talking about it as a base defense. Steele ran a variation of it for one game but that's not his base defense and that's not what he recruited defensive players to play.
Clemson tried it for 1 quarter
That's scheme not a base.
