don't really follow the Pats, can you give examples?

This article covers a few of the examples. Seemed like every week he would say something that was either too honest or completely dishonest and then would need to walk it back the next day

Just got the feeling he was constantly trying to make decisions based on what he thought a HC was supposed to do rather than having any of his own instinct or feeling to what to do. One day he’s a BB hardass with the media, the next he’s cackling and trying to make funny euphemisms like he’s Dan Campbell. Constantly apologizing for something he did and just basically being like “hey I’m still figuring this out”.

Then that got compounded with a lot of player comments that also seemed to show there was just no cohesion or vision in the locker room. Players clearly loved Mayo, but I think could tell it wasn’t working and he was drowning in the pressure

The team was expected to be bad and he could’ve survived the exact same results, but the media gaffes, poor player development on the field, and towards the end a few player shots at the fans and it just all came together to lead to what was obviously the answer.

He coached like what you’d expect a guy to coach like when he had barely had any coaching experience before getting the job. NFL just isn’t a learn on the job type of role, no idea why Kraft thought it was but gotta move on. Mayo is still a patriot hall of famer and all timer from his time. Not everyone’s built to coach or ready for it right away

Tons? In his first year as a HC? Then why even hire the guy?
I guess they can say they f’d up with the hire, but that is still the sign of a dysfunctional organization. Now that the golden boy and Oscar the grouch are gone, we can see that Kraft is not so great an owner after all.

Yeah I’ve already said multiple times he shouldn’t have been hired in the first place and it was clearly a mistaken. Doesn’t mean you just keep letting the problem continue

Pats have been dysfunctional for about a decade now. Brady and Bill were hiding a lot of the infighting and egos going on, Kraft especially

Worked out great, got your qb, tanked again for a high pick, now bring in the real coach.

NE has their QB so I'm sure they'll say they're keeping the pick but before draft day they'll trade it for more picks and perhaps a starter. Somebody is always willing to overpay for the shiny new QB. Too bad the QB class is weak or NE could get a lot.

Pats need elite playmakers and Oline, and there’s more to be had at 4 than trading down or elsewhere

Tet or an Oline seems highly likely

but why even give him the job?

I remember reports of him being the coach in waiting years ago. Like 2020-2021 or so.

Kraft has stated he knew Jerod Mayo would be the next head coach after taking a trip to Israel with Jerod in 2019

Jerod at that time had been the linebackers coach for about 2 months, which comprised his entire experience to that point. The patriots had also just won the Super Bowl I believe, or atleast went to it that same year.

They officially put it in writing following the 2022 season. Plan was for BB to break the wins record then hand the reigns to Mayo in the next year or two as he grew into it. They had a similar plan written up for McDaniels which is why he decided to not take the Colts job, but then I guess got antsy and took the Vegas job

Then in 2023 Roster and QB was so bad they won 3 games and the plan was changed to just fire BB right away and hire Mayo and just have him learn on the job

Kraft liked to describe it as an almost religious decision when he hired Mayo. IMO it was just his petty ego trying to prove to BB that everything else in the org was great and BB was the problem. What better way to prove that than to get a guy who has barely coached to replace him and Elliot Wolf draft boards are going to show the media who the real geniuses were during the early 2000s run.

Should’ve just cleaned house last year and pulled root and stem every main structure from the BB era and start fresh with a new team. They had the same options last year between Vrabel and Ben Johnson. Krafts own ego got in the way and we burned a year for it. Drake Maye the only thing keeping it from being a complete calamity
