Hes been to the playoffs as an HC and turned around a terrible team.

Are we hiring a play caller or a HC?

You people are telling me to do research and you haven't done it yourselves

He was at Memphis for one year under Mike Norvell. They had the #8 offense. That was Norvell calling plays.

he made Bo Nix into a Heisman candidate

He was at Oregon the year before Bo Nix's Heisman candidate season. Will Stein was the OC when Bo Nix had the good year.

Go look at the Big 12 last year. ASU got an automatic bid because they won the Big 12. I'll help you out, this was the average teams record in all of the Big 12 last year:

7 wins
5.6 losses

Only half the Big 12 (8/16) made a bowl game last year. It was complete arse.

You deserve more downvotes. He went to the playoffs before Lane did. He took an absolute abysmal situation and turned it around. 2012 USC was ranked number 1 with Lane as head coach. They finished unranked. Lane hasn't been a can't miss coach everywhere he's been. Miles did damn good at LSU. What did he do before LSU ?

Would he have made the cfp in a stronger conference?

He has won several games against teams ranked higher than his. In 2024, he beat a ranked Utah, BYU, and Iowa State. He also took Texas to OT in the playoff as a double-digit underdog. In 2025, they beat a ranked TCU and #7 Texas Tech

What’s lost in the Texas tech win is look at how TT has done against every other big team. They’ve absolutely dominated and beaten everyone else by an average of 28 points in the conference. Texas tech had a season low in points offensive and a season high in points allowed and total offense allowed defensive. It Was a coaching masterclass by Dillingham

Come on now. What argument do you actually want to make?

This is what happens when you spin up a thread to argue against an imaginary position. You show you really don’t have one to support

Fair to say he made the playoffs in a weaker conference but also a conference with way less pathways. You pretty much have to win the Big 12. Finish in the top 3-4 possibly even 5th in the SEC and you can make it. It kind of evens that part out.

Yet, Kiffin has been fired, ran away from another job and the Baws are in love with him

Now you’re just being stubborn and refusing to give credit. Bo nix HIMSELF has said Kenny Dillingham was a massive part of his development at Oregon. He even sent dillingham an autographed broncos jersey after his rookie year thanking Kenny and saying he wouldn’t be where he is now without him. You clearly haven’t done your hw on Kenny’s history with Bo .

The year Kenny was there at Oregon Bo still completed 71 percent of his throws , 29 touchdowns and threw for 3593 yards. That’s more passing touchdowns than he threw in his last two years at Auburn combined. He took a year 5 leap but the foundation was built the year before. Just like Jayden’s 4th year here before he took a Heisman leap in year 5

You can only play the teams on your schedule.

One you qualify every single accomplishment someone makes, you have made it impossible to compare against others without going through that same qualification process.

I didn't start this thread with an argument. I asked for your argument in the OP:

give me actual reasons and data for why this guy would be a good hire.

So far, I've been given erroneous, unresearched, and misrepresented reasons.

Yeah Lane is also wildly inconsistent on everything outside of offense and that includes the most important thing winning. Earlier it was said that LSU fans wouldn't put up with Dillingham's inconsistent results, same can be said for Lane. He has pretty regularly neglected one side of the ball and has been known for head scratching in game decisions that have negatively impacted games. Throw in Lincoln Riley and all 3 have extremely similar resumes, people are just prisoners of the moment. At the start of this season Lane might have been ranked the 2nd or 3rd best candidate out of those 3. Don't get me wrong this season matters and I think he should be 1st choice but acting like there is some significant difference between the 3 is laughable. It's based on nothing but emotion and SEC pride.

100% agree. He’s this years Tom Herman

Same age, had one great year with a senior loaded team.

IMO that doesn’t get you a top 5 job
