There is a chance Chavis will bring either Dan Brooks or Steve Caldwell with him to LSU. Brooks coached defensive tackles at Tennessee and Caldwell defensive ends.
I don't expect this to happen...I think this is a play by LSU to gain leverage over O...Miles wants O...I expect O to be at LSU.

I guess Jim Donnan looks like a genius now, since he blasted Chavis to LSU over the ATL radio weeks ago

Walker-wants a HC job
Koenning-plays "soft zone"- has the same general rundown as chavis-you woulda whined about that too if hed been hired
Edwards-not enough experiance to know
Tenuta-a well known jerk who cant find a DC job anywhere

imo walker~chavis~koenning>edwards>tenuta

there was no perfect canidate, the only hire that might have been better was walker, but he wants a HC job and looks like he will be getting one. Also lets face it as a black HC hes not going to feel like he is in a position to be turning down HC jobs.

what does any of this have to do with me not liking any hire just because of Miles?

Yeah but didn't he report O to Tenn. He'll still look like an "a-hole" in the end.

ETA: Shouldn't of used that word.

Is Steele right about the "12 walking boots" thing after the So. Carolina game? If so, how many of those were significant defensive players?

Which South Carolina game? What season?

Is this Chavis' usual ploy, i.e. mostly man when he has the horses, and mostly zone when he doesn't? And does that affect his level of QB aggression, i.e. blitz more from man, less from zone?

Seems like it at least... I'd say more when he's got the horses in the Front 7, We played a lot of man in the mid 90's against better WR talent (See '95 and '96 UF games) I'm not sure if he'd do that now.

A common criticism is that Chavis won't adjust during halftime. How well founded is this as a legit criticism?

There have been times that this has happened (Bama '07 for example) I don't know if it is "won't adjust" or "couldn't adjust" in certain situations. I really don't think its a legit criticism. My main criticism over the last 5 years is that the Defense seems to wear out more late in the game, and he wasn't substituting as much as we had in years past.

quote:

And last question. A friend who's a rabid UT guy told me that while Chavis is no softy, his players almost universally love him, and will "go to war for him" no matter what. Fair assessment?

Yup, there are 2 things that all Vol fans pretty much agreed on, even if they hated Chavis:
1. He could coach LB's
2. The players were fiercely loyal, even with his reputation for chewing their tails at practice.

I will provide the caveat that there are a number of Vol fans who'd disagree with me.

Looks like ESPN is trying to force Coach Miles' hand again ... that worked so well for them last time lol
Still, I'm guessing that we may get a bit earlier now that ESPN's got a hold of it ...

Naw just heard someone was offered a job with LSU possibly being the DC job. Nothing was booked or anything, just hearsay.

wait....are you serious....surely not but if you are then it explains a lot

I assumed that you were saying those would have been better than chavis I was just pointing out all of those have holes in them too, because you are so quick to point out chavis' downside. If you werent suggesting those people over chavis, then who would you rather?

I agree with this. With equal or better talent a spread offense is gonna put up some points.
