If, and that's a big if, Arkansas is willing to pay $5 mill (+) a season for a coach, they have a legit shot of hiring someone most on here think is untouchable...that's top dollar.

I don't know the financial situation at Tennessee or Auburn but they both have to factor in "buy outs" into the budget; so, they may have to stay in the $3 mill range. If that's right, the only big name out there willing to come in at that price is Petrino. Tennessee won't hire Petrino but Auburn is desperate enough to take on the media firestorm that will certainly come with that hire. Tennessee will hire the best available "up and comer".

Bottom line, I think Arkansas makes the biggest splash and Auburn makes the most excuses. Tennessee will have the biggest fan revolt.

We will offer Jimbo 3.75 per year or more. With the new TV contracts every school has money

Your reading comprehension needs improvement. At no point did I say the best hire would equate to success. Tell me again how many SEC Championships Arkansas has won? How many BCS trophies does the school have? Yep, that brings a tear to my eye.

LSU will always get better talent than Arkansas and that won't change.

Petrino equated to success and I think Petersen will be successful IF he comes here. He talks about player development at Boise State, he has that down then he can do it here.

Success in the SEC is defined by BCS trophies.

LSU just had a 10-2 (6-2 in conference) season and LSU fans see it as a failure.

Petrino's best year at Arkansas was 10-2 (6-2 in conference) and you call that a success.

That's the difference between the 2 programs.

probably so but still it is success for Arkansas remember we have not been to a BCS bowl in the modern era and the playoff system will benefit a team like us the most. Coming to the realization that Bama is king and will remain that way as long as Saban is in Bama has been hard for LSU fans I see.

Take it with a grain of salt your coach just used us for a raise in order to improve his current situation. Most of you all will probably want to fire him if he only wins 10 next season which is a possibility.

The real fact is that LSU, and only LSU, has a legitimate chance of beating Saban year in and year out...and that is why Miles got the raise.
The best hire you can make won't match that. That's why your school wanted to hire him!

I wish I could link it here but there is an article in todays Demozette by Wally Hall talking about how it went down my misinformed LSU fan. According to Wally, Long called a former colleague amd asked for advice in the coaching search. Miles proceeded to ask Long what about me? LSU is dragging their feet on my new contract and so Long said well if you are actually interested then I will see what I can do. Les called his agent and the next thing boom he re committed himself to LSU with raise in hand. Like it or not your coach made himself available to us in order to get a raise so if he so much as farts next season, if I was a LSU fan. I would want his arse fired. He has to be losing fan base support every time he flirts with a new school. that is the way it is.

No, you're right. He got the raise because Miles is bad coach and LSU just wanted to piss money away.

The media firestorm

adono, i think the "media firestorm" is a bit exaggerated. The filth and the fury from the media will last about a week then the discourse will revert right back to football. AU hiring Petrino won't render too much of a firestorm.

Your way off.

When Arkansas failed to hire a coach last week it was a sign that the wheels had came off the hiring process.

Everyone's season was over and coaches didn't have anymore games left. If a coach would have been willing to come here they would have announced it then.

We missed the window of opportunity and might have to go the interim route again.

My sources say we fuked:

No, it's not a big if. Or an if at all

I'm not a Miles supporter by any stretch of the imagination.

I'm pissed that LSU extended his contract for a lot of reasons and agree with most of your points. I wish we'd have called his bluff.

I personally don't like Miles. The handling of the Lee/Jefferson situation last year ended my support for him. That doesn't mean he's not a good coach; I just don't agree how he makes major decisions (see the Doug Mallory and Bradley Dale Peveto co-coordinator decision for further proof).

The fact remains that he wins a lot of games.

You are aware of the fact that Miles has the best winning percentage against Saban than any other coach in the SEC, right?

That's what I thought.
