Is this Texas coaching thing more of a big 12 vs Sec thing?

I mean Texas has been complacent being underachievers for years..YEARS! Now all of the sudden they want to win championships and win them NOW. They have always had the money to go after any coach so why Saban and why now? I say it has more to do with A&M and Missouri leaving than Mack Brown. I think Texas has a spiteful hard on for the SEC.

There is no question that A&M in the SEC is driving them postal. They can't believe how far they have fallen so fast and they are desperate to do something to change.

It's really more about fear of being #2 in Texas. Not that they don't want to win NC's but now they see it as the only way they can compete. Nobody cares about the BDF, just look at the ratings.

You could argue it would be an easier path to the national championship.

I agree with the A&M angle. Texas isn't about to be showed up by the Aggies.

Go read their message boards. Or listen to their biggest boosters. They can't keep our name out of their mouths. This is 100% about the giant that is Texas A&M awakening.

Texas has sec envy

quote:

In a cover story for ESPN the magazine Texas's head coach bragged about how much his team has become like the SEC, "I look at the SEC and recognize that's how they've won," Brown told the magazine. "At Texas, you don't want to lose a game just because your QB is having a bad day. That's why I hired three SEC coaches."

You'd be a fool to think this was about anything other than them not being #1 in the state anymore and them not knowing how to handle it.

They're in danger of being overshadowed by A&M. They can take losing, underachieving, scandals, Holiday Bowls, but they can not stand being overshadowed by A&M.

Yep. They remember the 80s and the 90s and they'll throw every legacy coach under the bus to moneywhip any mercenary out there who will get them back to where they feel like they deserve to be.

So if you can't join 'em, beat 'em.

If you can't beat 'em, steal their league's version of the tsips to be their new coach.

I can't blame them, but Dodds fricked that program and it will take more than a Saban to un-frick it.

Not necessarily Big 12 vs SEC, but a combination of little brother leaving home and having success. If A&M were still in the Big 12 UT would have shown interest in Saban but would have taken no for an answer. Now, UT will make an offer that Saban cannot refuse. UT is nervous about losing their stature within the state more so than nationally.

I get that they've got "tBrand", but we're older and larger. We're big brother, dammit!
