If O were 7-5 or 8-4 range we aren’t having this conversation for a few more years.

We have been embarrassed by teams we shouldn’t have and every now and then win a game we shouldn’t. Even o acknowledges that isn’t good enough and inconsistency like that is a sign of a program trending down. It’s not like LSU was in a rebuild mode. We have had the talent to compete last year and this year.

Coach O's results were impacted by politics. The root cause of opt out, lack of performance by the players, and him loosing the team were political.

does the new coach HAVE to go 11-1 every year?

I realize that I am probably responding to one of the Facebook mothers so I will try to be civil in my response. The new coach needs to do better than 500,be competitive and within reach of sec and National Championships. I hope this post didn’t hurt your feelings. Good day ma’am

Had Miles actually changed his way of thinking, there is no reason to think he probably wouldn't still be here. If he had just adapted his offensive philosophy we still probably have 2 coaches in 20 years.

it's career suicide.

Lol...even WITH Miles leaving, we still have had 3 coaches in a 21 year window. Show me another program that has had that kind of stability.

If "suicide" means a $17 million dollar payout for running a program into the ground then sitting on your arse for the next three years, then pass me the sodium pentothal

You know what else is career suicide? Being one of the highest paid HC’s in college football and fielding back to back .500 teams while also being a complete trainwreck off of the field.

we better go after an old arse coach who only wants to coach for a few more years.

Les was at LSU a long time and would have remained at LSU if he had hired someone to fix his offense. There have been a total of three coaches at LSU in the past 21 years. That's not exactly a revolving door for head coaches. Saban would still be here if he hadn't left for Miami, so saying there's not an opportunity for a long run at LSU is false. Les won 1 championship and played for another in 11 years. He won 10+ games in 7 out of those 11 years, but it's not like we were constantly in the running for national championships during his tenure. So, the expectations you're talking about aren't exactly the reality. I never really felt the program was in a free fall until the last two years Miles was here though.

The problem with Ed is that the program was obviously in a very sharp decline and if allowed the continue would have likely resulted in LSU being bottom feeders in the SEC. Ed said it himself last night. The national championship was a product of the players and assistant coaches that were here and it was just the perfect storm He had very little to do with it and basically admitted that he had no idea how to fix the issues. You can't hold on to a coach that openly admits he had very little to do with the team that was keeping him here to begin with. If he tanks in 2019, he would have been fired after last year.

If a coach comes to LSU and wins 10+ games and competes for championships and the SEC regularly with down years here and there, they will obviously be allowed to stay as was proven with Les. I don't think anyone looks at LSU and sees coaching suicide. I think they see an opportunity to work at a school that has all the tools and pieces to win championships if they are used correctly. How many schools can say they've won 3 national championships with the last three coaches they've had?
