IMO its a wash...from everything Ive heard about Wilson hes a great recruiter but may not have the oos ties of porter, but I think he will end a lot of the puzzling Rb substitutions weve seen the past several years

On paper, you would never give up a veteran like Porter, for a relative newcomer like Wilson. However, he could turn out to be his equal or better.

Agreed. Since Porter has already walked away it makes arguments null. Wilson is who we got from now on.

Personally I thought Porter was WAY overrated. Wilson is kinda unproven. So for now I'll give Wilson the edge in potential.

As a recruiter he is one of the best ever. As a coach he is mediocre.

tough to really be a great or bad rb coach....

Porter was EXCELLENT at what he was intended to do. Calling him overrated is laughable

Frank should do well here though

I heard that the helter skelter RB substitution patterns was all Porter. Supposedly Porter would call the RB sub package according to play call which is one reason we were late getting the play on the field.

How many fumbles did LSU RBs give up over the last four years? I'll bet you that Arrian Foster, formerly of UT, probably had as many in one season. If you think Porter had nothing to do with that, then go back and look at the numbers for 04 and 05. Yes, before some idiot comments, I know Porter was here in 05, but he was dealing with some fumble prone guys that he inherited. I think the drastic change that started the next year and has continued to the present speaks for itself.

Also, how good were Hester and Scott at picking up blitzes in pass protection? I would say both were rock solid.

Porter may not have been perfect, but don't even try to say he did nothing.

No one is saying he did nothing but I agree that he was somewhat overrated. He couldn't close on a bigtime RB late in the process (McKnight, Richardson, Lache) and was one of the reasons we passed on Michael.

I also think Wilson is somewhat overrated although he's gonna be monster in New Orleans and Louisiana in general.

McKnight committed to USC before his senior year...literally no way he was coming to LSU short of LSU becoming USC. Can't say he didn't close on Lache, he left before he got a chance to sign him.

He didn't close on Richardson. He did close on Williams and Ford.

Ford was always LSU.
