I guess this question is like the chicken or the egg. Is coaching getting worse, or is it the transfer portal and the early exits starting to show it's ugly head? Why is the NCAA letting these kids play without sitting?

I mean just about every guy we have all named at DC or OC or head coaches have failed somewhere..

I'll appreciate your opinions.

This is why the obsession with “young, hungry, up and coming” coaches are all the rage. They don’t have a negative on their resume yet. Any coach that has true experience at this level will have a blemish in their resume. Hell even Saban has his stint with the Dolphins.

Most coaches are going to fail at some point. The good ones learn from their mistakes.

The key is to get one on the rise, not one who was good and then spent several years coaching fcs.

I don't mind a coach who fails, It's not whether or not they fail, its what they do with the knowledge gained from failure that's important.

Every team has its fair share of coaching turnover & transfers. Some are just more resilient to adversity because of the infrastructure that has been established.

But for the franchise passing on Brees, Saban would still be in the NFL

Coaching isn't getting worse.

We are just realizing our coaching isn't is as good as we thought. The transfer portal, early exits and coordinator changes don't knock top programs on their arse, but it did ours.

This is because if you get guys who believe that they are going to win in your program then they don't transfer, and they still leave early but they don't do it as often.

And when you lose two assistants and then play like garbage, then people think that you won because of your assistants and they don't believe they are going to win in your program.

The reason for this is not a mystery, the guy at the top for LSU is good, and not great.

And the NCAA is letting kids play without sitting because there is no reason that a college student with eligibility shouldn't be able to switch schools and play sports. Making them sit a year was always just un-American BS to help coaches.

Of course it's coaching. We would just prefer it not to be because we kind of know that the best coaches work for other schools.

I don’t mind a coach who’s failed once. It’s when you start hiring a Scott Linehan, who tumbled down the coaching ladder from NFL head coach to a not-in-demand NFL offensive coordinator to a lifeline college passing game coordinator, where you have problems.

Because there is no rational argument to prevent the players from doing so.

If a coach can transfer (get another job) to another program without having to sit out a year, then the players should also be allowed the same curtesy. In fact, the players may have more of a right, given that every scholarship is on a year to year basis whereas coaches are often under long term contracts.

Program stability is completely underrated by fans to our detriment.

There is nothing fans like more than coaches getting fired. We can't fire the players so making SOMEONE pay for the team not meeting our expectations is catharsis. The pressure value here becomes firing coaches, which is why they demand so much money up front.

Meanwhile the players value the relationships they have built with certain people and the idea that coaches they have bonded to will be around for their time in college. This puts them in direct conflict with the demands of fans.

Then we wonder why so many players sit out bowl games, when many are probably pretty jaded about their experience by the time they become a senior and they have experienced being under many different coaches with superficial relationships to them all.

Saban can blame who he wants but that was his call to get Culpepper over Brees. He had total control over roster moves when he went to Miami. That’s why he took the job.

For the record, I don’t think Saban’s stint at Miami was a total failure and with time he would have eventually gotten them on track to at least be competing for playoff spots.

Not sure I agree with this... IMO Brees benefited tremendously by going to the Saints/Sean Peyton...
