He was originally hired to fill in for Dennis Johnson after his injury, but I have not seen any mention on if he's expected to stay on staff.

Yes
Sounds like Lacoutoure will move into analyst role Meatball occupied and maybe the heir apparent to Bill Johnson someday if another school doesn't come and get him

I think you will hear a more formal announcement once Pelini arrives and meets with all the defensive coaches.

He went with Coach O and Lacotoure to visit McKinnley Jackson so it does at least look like he's staying.

I’m talking contract details and so forth.

O was a redshirt freshman DL at Northwestern State 40 years ago in 1980

Bill Johnson just started as a GA that year at NW St after playing there, and was one of O's coaches

there's your "contract"

Well that’s one way of putting it, this was to response of when we are gonna know officially. Waiting on Pelini is the reason you haven’t gotten official word from LSU or from Bill himself.

I imagine Johnson and Ensminger both are letting their old buddy O know they will be there for him, even part time or "analyst", for whatever he needs.

They're both past 60 years old, so there's that, but then again I don't know many people who just want to retire and go sit down and die either

making some scratch you don't even need and still having fun waking up in the morning is probably most at play with Johnson and Ensminger, especially since their boss is their lifelong friend

Pete Jenkins was 76 when he was helping coach the DL here in 2017 so I guess Ensminger and Johnson are just kids.

Your 100% right he does want to coach high level football for a few more years at LSU or NFL level, he wasn’t staying as an analyst. I’m sure it’s like most guys where you become a lifer in the industry, not everyone wants to golf or fish everyday. Also not a bad deal working with your friends in your home state at a program like LSU.

And yes Meatball is at Baylor now.
