Admittedly, I don't know much about him. I just read that the dude has the respect of the LSU fans and wonder why his name is not mentioned as a head coaching candidate. He is 40 years old and seems to have a solid track record. Bama seems to have more luck with defensive-minded head coaches. Not a troll....just wondering what is the knock on him?

Experience! The transition from coordinator to HC is not always good.

Obviously no HC experience.

But pretty much everyone feels he's the next big thing in CFB down the road.

Keeping Aranda has been a cornerstone of pretty much everyone's plan for LSU moving forward. There are even quite a few, myself included, that would prefer handing it over to Aranda now before giving the job to the TierB candidates.

we're gonna suck next year so would be a good year to cut his teeth. could also backfire because id hate for a brand new coach to not start with some momentum

nobody really does.

he will as soon as the season is over with. which is why LSU admin is going to try and secure him to a pretty lofty contract for a DC.

how is he at recruiting? how would he be as the face of a program? dealing with boosters, media, etc ...

The dude is the brightest football mind to come through LSU since the departure of Jimbo in 2006. I truly believe that.

Aranda doesn't yell, the Rant has told me that only coaches that yell a lot are good coaches.

I don't think there is a "knock" against him, just some unknowns.
Is he personable enough to be the frontman of a program?
He hasn't been labeled an elite recruiter. Can he be the closer that HC's need to be?

Stuff like this scares some people.

He is an analytical person, it is not even clear if he is interested in what comes with a HC job. Even if he was interested he is not ready, not for a major program but he likes more money.

If LSU gets the man with the experience they want, all is well.... Aranda seems like a solid enough back-up plan from my perspective.

Yes... No one is really but he has shown great intelligence and leadership. I say tee him up.
