Interesting Trend in Miles Hires

Got to thinking about all our coordinator hires, and every one has been a guy either out of a job or "on the way out."
Pelini - on his way out of OU after a bad year
Crowton - on his way out of Oregon after a bad year
Chavis - fired with Fulmer
Doesn't mean they were all bad hires, just an interesting trend I noticed.

I would venture to say that that is how most hires are...people doing well tend to stay put, because of loyalty or more importantly more money is thrown at them to stay.
I don't have facts to back this up it is just what i would assume

It is unless people get creative and hire someone from a smaller school.

I would say Pelini turned the LSU gig into a nice job at Nebraska and has them in the Big 12 title game

I don't know that I'd classify Pelini as "on his way out of OU". I think he was definitely going to leave as he wanted to be the sole DC (remember he was co-DC with Venables under a defensive coach), but I bet that if he wanted to stay there, he could've. He was a good hire. A good hire that probably wasn't solely Miles' decision.
I was never a fan of the Crowton hire, but I agree that he seemed he was on his way out too. LSU pretty much saved Oregon from having to fire him.

usually, asst coaches are hired that are available. also, forking up the dough for buy-outs for asst. coaches is not a common practice because of the cost involved. there is not that big of a "taint" on fired asst coaches because many are fired when their HC is fired and many are fired as "sacrificial lambs" when fan bases demand the HC do something to improve their team.

Bad information there, Crowton was loved here by the fans and not going anywhere until LSU showed him the money. Money, cures all ailments.

I disagree completely with your logic. Pellini was a great hire, Crowton was not in disfavor, and Chavis had many, many options when the entire staff got washed out with Fulmer. On paper, 3 good hires-- Crowton has not developed an offensive identity and needs to go.

You're conveniently leaving out our Co D coordinators from last year. Bad hires, but blows your trend theory out of the water.

I didn't say he was washed up or a bad hire.
But the fact is, OU's defense under his watch that year was below their standards. It was pretty well known that there was some serious discontent with him.
But Pelini also probably wanted to get a sole DC job.

Well, perhaps not outright fired, but it appears the AD gave Kiffin the power to make coaching decisions and Kiffin opted not to retain him.

He says he had no desire to be there after they fired Fulmer. It may have been mutual and beneficial for both to walk away, but I wouldnt characterize it as him being "fired".
