You do realize that Ole Miss played us, Florida, Kentucky, Arkansas, Miss. State, South Carolina in conference and that they are a combined 9-39 in SEC games, right?

It’s funny that you want to only judge LSU’s defense against the top 3 offenses they faced (although you conveniently write off Arkansas’ offense because it doesn’t support your argument), but ignore the fact that Ole Miss scored 34 and 35 against the two best defenses they faced (Oklahoma and Georgia).

Im not sure how anyone who watched us play vandy could think the defense played okay or even average

So holding them to their third lowest score of the season isn't even average? Ok

If we are looking at only points (your choice) then its tied for 3rd lowest with 2 other teams, thats out of 8 teams. Thats pretty much exactly average. They scored 32 points a game, lsu held them to 31 with a mercy kneel, exactly average.

The only thing that matters, yes.

The scored over 39 a game.

i already stated i was looking at conference only games, i dont care how anyone does vs little sisters of the poor. If you do, and you like to crow about offensive performances over charleston southern and georgia st, go for it

But all those games count for all the season ranking and all teams have those games, you can't just remove them because you don't like it.

Sure i can. I did it consistently for each team i measured lsu up against and how we fare against the upper echelon is something i care about, so i did it

You can do whatever you want. Just makes your argument silly. This was a championship caliber defense we wasted, that's the bottom line.

This is a strange thing to downvote given a couple playoff teams have defenses ranked worse than ours and also played easier schedules.

You are smoking mad copium. Two things can be true:

1. We are going to be fine regardless
2. He is a great DC, we want to keep him, and stability of retaining him would help jumpstart kiffin’s tenure with all of the guaranteed staff changes on the other side of the ball

Don’t be stupid.

Outside of the first two drives of the game, I saw them march down the field at will pretty much even with the fumble right before he goes into the end zone.

Oklahoma forced Tennessee to punt only twice. Tennessee drove inside the Oklahoma 30 on their first 4 drives and to their 36 on the fifth. Drive 6 was an INT. 3 of 6 drives in the second half got inside the 30 and 4 of 6 inside the 40. That’s 7 drives inside the 30 and 9 inside the 40 out of 12. If you were consistently judging the two defensive performances, you would draw similar conclusions.

SP+ has LSU as the 9th best defense in college football fyi.

I don't care about some formula, we all watched what happened on the field.
The secondary covered well. The line did a great job of stuffing the running back runs, and could get good initial pressure. We could not contain a mobile QB; if he didn't get caught in the initial rush, he could run for miles. Or refocus, and make a big passing play against a stretched secondary.

It happened multiple games, and multiple times in those games.

Yea, we watched a top defense against one of the hardest schedules carry one of the worst offenses

The defense gave us the opportunity to win every game except maybe A&M (but that first half though). We honestly should have lost a couple more games if not for the defensive performances this year. Clemson, UF,WKU, Arkansas games are all easily losable thanks to our garbage offense

And as the OP stated and I agreed- I'm fine with this team if Baker leaves.

We shouldn't have a garbage offense going forward. And Baker is not the only guy capable of running a man-coverage, pressure defense that fits the athletes LSU brings in. There may be someone who can run a similar scheme, AND devise ways to shut down the scrambling QB.

Baker is almost certainly going to leave for Tulane, are you already giving up hope for the future?

Taylen Green broke free on one long TD run but was otherwise contained and passed for only 165 yards. They held Arkansas to only 22 points (15 excluding the blocked point). Lenoris Sellers rushed for 19 yards and had 143 yards on the way to 10 points.

I leave out Arkansas because they have won 2 games all year and are winless in conference. I don't know if that would necessarily be the feather in Baker's cap when talking about opposing offenses they have stopped.

UGA is a very good team. Oklahoma is not a good team. They have a good defense but Mateer and their offense is going to hinder any chance they have in the playoffs.

We had 17 yards passing through 3 quarters against them and still held a lead late into the 4th. They were lucky.

Good for you. Your takes on his defense are wrong though

If y'all want to glaze Baker for the Ole Miss performance be my guest.

The guy was going to score for Ole Miss at the end to make it 31 and went down to run out the clock. Sure, we got a fumble into the endzone after we allowed them to go right down the field in 5 plays. Was that good defense or just luck?

I already told you Ole Miss is fool's gold bro. Try to keep up. They haven't played anyone this season.

We would still have BK as our coach if we swapped out Vandy and A&M for Kentucky and Miss. State.

Guess they've been lucky 9 other times this year

What's funny is they are what we would be this year with an average offense, basically invalidating your whole melt about Baker.

Guess that's why we're paying Baker the big bucks as one of the best DCs in the country. To not get stops when it matters against against Vanderbilt, who is 6th-7th best team in the conference. And hold them to their third lowest scoring total of the season.

Glad we're really setting the standard.

Lane needs to get you on staff, you clearly understand the game so much more than everyone else.
