I’m not certain Matt would do as well at LSU as ISU
If he can win at Iowa State, he should be able to win anywhere.

Matt doesn’t try to recruit 5* or even 4* players at ISU. He find coachable, developable players and invests in them. I’m not sure he could deal with what’s involved with going after highly sought after players.
That is true at ISU where they are at the bottom of the big12. But Campbell has also coached at Toledo (best resources in the MAC) & Mount Union (best resources in d 3) and thrived. Both schools are top of their class - meaning he has a proven track record of being the top dog in his conference and recruited as such and won those battles with consistency.

I see him as a less successful version of Ferentz; I think he is content to be a bit better than average and stay at Iowa State.

Campbell would be such a good hire at Arkansas I think
I'd honestly kick the tires on him at Auburn, but I think it would cost too much money for our position (ie, Auburn really can't afford to spend 10-12m a year for a true roll of the dice).

I have real sauces on this person in particular.
Congrats. I also have sources - as high in the athletic department as you can get. I was just commenting on his personality more than tapping sources.

I’m a huge Matt Campbell fan, and an ISU and LSU alum and fan.
1) I’m not certain Matt would do as well at LSU as ISU - totally different coaching mentality requirements. Matt doesn’t try to recruit 5* or even 4* players at ISU. He find coachable, developable players and invests in them. I’m not sure he could deal with what’s involved with going after highly sought after players.
2) Matt is family first and doesn’t want a tier one gig where that causes conflict.
3) he turned down a Brian Kelly sized contract with the Lions a few years ago to stay in Ames.
I don't think he is ever leaving there either. He could have so many other times, and he has yet to do it. He isn't about the glitz, glamour and spotlight. He has his own philosophy and playbook that he lives by.
You're right on the money!
