And there isn’t a close second. Would he come? You make him say no.

He is a beast of a coach. Auto correct on my phone thinks he is a beast, too.

Yes he had hip surgery and didn't feel he could do his job to full potential so he took an analyst job while he healed up.

Dear Mrs Leonhard,

Please tell us more about your husband so that we might better understand what makes him such a great candidate for LSU DC when he was let go from his ideal job as DC at his alma mater and he is currently employed as an analyst at Illinois.

TIA

IF he wanted it, he may be the best candidate. I don't think he has eyes for the LSU DC gig though.

he had surgery and wasn't retained on staff with Luke. He felt that he couldn't give it his all until he made a full recovery. Bert hooked him up as a buddy and gave him the analyst position until he heals

Jacob Hester said that he used to play with Leonard and he's never met someone that understood the Xs and Os of the game as well as him and could break it down barnie style as well.

I can never tell if anyone is joking

That was by choice.

Leonard is considered an elite DC in coaching circles

Dears Mrs Minimal,

He was not let go. Luke offered him the D.C. job and he turned it down. He was passed over as the h.c.

He decided to have hip surgery and took the analysis position with his whisky bud, Bert.

He has been the top d.c. in the country for a number of years. He replaced Aranda at Whisky. Aranda worked out well enough to win a n.c. At lsu.

Is there anything else I can help your ignorant arse out with concerning my husband?

I watched several videos about him and his defensive philosophy. From a pure defensive standpoint, he is this generation's Nick Saban.

Jim Leonhard PR campaign is in full effect.

He allegedly turned down the Packers DC spot to have hip surgery and take a year off.

Maybe this guy isn't the "best candidate" if one is looking for even a modicum of stability and continuity.

Apparently he doesn’t want to leave the Midwest as well. I’m sure money could change that but that’s what’s often said.

A lot of his concepts are Aranda-esque. I think LSU needs to go after a 4-3 guy anyway.

ETA: I do think he’d be the best DC available to get and I think he’d do very well at LSU but his future is in the NFL. LSU will get killed in DL recruiting with Leonhard as DC.

What

Leonhard is an elite DC and has been mentioned on here for many years.

He had a hip problem for many years from his NFL days, and because there was a coaching change at Wisconsin, decided to take a year "off" and get surgery to get it corrected.

He was at Wisconsin for 7 years as a coach, an eternity in coaching

Probably more like 4-2-5

Of course.

The only reason I’m skeptical of 3 down linemen coordinators is the recruiting ramifications. Aranda had a very hard time recruiting 3tech/5tech pass rushers with everyone negatively recruiting his scheme as being a waste of DL talent. No HS player wants to be a pure run stuffer.

ETA: and I’m not saying Aranda was a bad coach or was stuck to one style of front. He switched up alignments in games multiple times but was usually addicted to his tite front. In 2018 vs UGA he flipped the script after the first few drives and went to a 1 gap look and threw off Georgia’s OL.

ETA2: and as much skepticism there is about D.J. Durkin, I really liked how he used Jabrill Peppers at Michigan. I could see Perkins being used in a similar role
