If Stoops loses this game, how do you feel about him

relative to the top teir coaches discussion?
If he loses this game, he would have lost to USC, LSU, BSU, WVU, Texas (last 2) and UF in a row! that would be 0-5 in the last bowls games (ouch!) downer after winning the Big 12
He has great seasons, but he can't seem to finish..
Same with Tressel...Not getting it down in the end, when it counts the most (trophy case)

If he loses this game I don't EVER want to hear "big-game Bob" again.

Still one of the best coaches in America imo...not many coaches could beat UF right now

UF ripping OU should not affect Stoop's status as a coach. However, I would have said the same thing about Saban last week before the luster dimmed.

its great to get the program into those big games. he is also a great recruiter. But, without the wins on the big stage, its just good season after good season. thats what makes him a good coach. not a great coach. Belechek( dont know how to spell it) is great because of his titles not playoff appearances.

Same as I always have. A pompous, whiny a-hole who's teams rarely live up to expectations.

I'd say OU should FIRE him!!..and convince Miles to hire him as our DC..j/k
ETA-make him "Coach in waiting"

When is the last time he lost 5 games in a season? Even if he does lose his starting QB???

Posted on 1/7/09 at 5:06 pm to ApexTiger
He would be 2-5 in BCS games
At least Tressel is .500 in BCS games
BTW, "Big Game" Bob's defenses have given up an average of 49 points in his last 3 BCS games

"When is the last time he lost 5 games in a season? Even if he does lose his starting QB, 2nd string QB, 3rd sring QB, most of his defensive backfield, Defensive Coordinator and has to deal with a delusional fanbase"
This must be what you meant to say.
And the answer is, "Don't know that he ever has had to deal with all that. I don't think he has".

What I'll think is that he's still a coach who has won over 80% of his games and about 5 or so conference titles and he simply got beat by a powerful Gator team.
FWIW, The Bear lost 6 out of 7 bowl games(the one he didn't lose was a tie) in the late 60's and early 70's. He went for 7 seasons where he didn't win one.
And Bo Schembechler lost 10 of his first 11 bowl games.

and never won a National title either..
In today's times, you must win the Crystal every now and then when you get to the dance..
Tressel is 1-3
Stoops is 1-3, mabye 1-4!
Urban could be 2-0 or 1-1

Stoops replaces offensive and defensive coordinators like spare parts. The only constant is him and Oklahoma just keeps winning year after year. So, he is Tressel minus the sweater vest.

Both have BCS CG wins and multiple Conference titles.

yeah, but the trends are hard to ignore
If Miles had lost 4 straight bowls and 2 MNC games in row, what would be the word in Tiger town?
Bottom line is both the Big 10 and Big 12 are junk, and the SEC will likely prevail again

USC, LSU, WVU, and arguably UF were all better teams than Oklahoma, he shouldn't be punished for losing to them. When they played Boise they had a WR playing QB after Bomar got the boot and Boise needed some crazy shite to win anyway. The guy is still a great coach.

What can you say Stoop's teams always climax mid season. they don't have the endurance to last the whole season.
