I’m really worried that O backed himself in a corner. If he does not offer Raymond the DC job is this the proverbial “straw?”

I mean it’s hard to say we can’t hire him bc he has no experience when we literally just hired an OC that doesn’t have any experience

Peetz was in line for an NFL OC job that fell through for reasons that had nothing to do with him. I believe Carolina also blocked another team from interviewing him, as well. This is a little different situation than Raymond, who is older and we’ve never heard about him being considered for a DC position.

If Raymond was an option Pelini would've been fired mid-season to give him a trial run first

But that is the rub here. If he ever has aspirations of becoming more than an amazing DB coach, he then has to move on if he isn’t being considered once LSU moves off of their top tier targets.

Right wrong or indifferent, the pure optics on this sorta backs O into a corner now. With Freeman it made sense (or is at least debatable that he should have that DC title all to himself), but as you move farther away from those home run hires Raymond has to start wondering if he will ever get a chance for a DC job anywhere else if the school he’s been at for 10 years keeps passing him by.

Easiest way to deal with this is give him an AHC or Co-DC when the new DC is brought in, but now you have to have the new DC agreeable to the situation.

At 51 years old the window for "aspirations" is closing on Coach Raymond. Maybe he is just fine and dandy making his 800k a year to coach the DBs

Being a first time play caller on offense is a far different animal than being a play caller for the first time on defense. It’s a far greater luxury being able to do what you want as opposed to trying to figure out what someone else wants to do and how to stop it.

No, it's not. The new young offensive coaches were on the verge of making the jump for a coordinating job. Corey has been a DB coach for 10+ years. I'm sure if he was the man to be promoted he would have been given a shot. He has been sharing the DB job for the last 4 years

Will be interesting to see if LSU still pushes for a minority hire.

I hope you are right and now it’s being reported that Terry Joseph is heading to UT. Hopefully he stays put!

Not a similar situation at all. Nobody here knows how much Raymond is involved in gameplans either. For all we know he doesn't even want to be a DC. I've never heard Raymond's name mentioned by anyone as a big part of the gameplan outside just coaching up the secondary. He could be happy in the role he's at with the extra responsibilities of recruiting. Good position coach and excellent recruiter. Rare to get both.

If he hires Raymond he should be fired for not moving to him after moo state. He can’t hire Raymond for the simple fact that he couldn’t explain why not do it after game 1
