What's so great about JDR? I like him.. the wearing of the tie and jacket on the sidelines; decent coach. But what's the fascination with him here?

I agree. This is one of the mysteries of the modern universe. The man's resume is no better than 25 other NFL HCs and worse than quite a few. And he has no college coaching experience. Not just HC experience --- no college experience at all. I know he has some La connections but this is nuts.

I cannot think of one coach who jumped from the pros to a major college HC job who succeeded who had not already spent significant time in college before he went to the pros. Not one.

I think it would take 1 season before negatigers turned on JDR. If that.

I've asked this question several times, and never got a straight answer; other than his daughter supposedly went to LSU, or some shite like that.

Are you asking about his connection to LSU/Louisiana?

His wife is from Lafayette. He had one step daughter graduate from LSU, and another that is currently a student here. As recently as 3-4 years ago he still had a condo in NOLA, not sure if he still does.

Not really asking about it, so much as saying it's the only reason I've ever gotten for JDR to be LSU's head coach. None of those reasons make him the best candidate.

IF AD, I'd make Shannahan, Cowher, and Jimmy Johnson say no first. Obviously those would be long shots to say the least.

Why not throw Meyer, Saban, and Bear Bryant in your list.

How about any of these?

under 50 years old, over 40

playing career
-all american defensive player at a current BCS school
-10 plus year NFL career with one pro bowl

assistant coach career
-while a DC considered one of the best in the NFL
-one Super Bowl Championship ring

NFL HC career
-over five years as a NFL HC
-winning career record
-multiple play off appearances

Miscell.
-favors an aggresive defense and a balanced pro-style offense
-personable, well spoken
-understands the clock rules
-manly good looks that rival an older Houston Bates

what wouldn't he be able to do at the college level because he was never a GA at Valdosta in 1986? Run booster luncheons?

It's a valid point. Clearly Pete Carroll's experience at NC State and Pacific in the early 80's are the key to USC's run from 2001-2008.

Imagine that, we would have been watching 30 for 30 LSU instead of Miami. This kinda makes me teary eyed.

It's decent, but not jaw dropping. Some of it is just plain laughable, like the miscellaneous stuff.

I think Patterson signed through 2016 for 2 per.

I have no idea about any buyout clauses, but his projected salary would still be far less than Miles' buyout, FWIW.

He would have to consider it, if only to sweeten his deal with TCU. But, none of this is happening this year, anyway.

No buyout clause.

No settlement terms, just in case.

No out schools.

Yes, the money to the tune of $15 mil through 2016 is guaranteed even if Coach Patterson is fired in a week. And if Texas, Texas A&M, Notre Dame or Arizona State calls in 10 days or 10 weeks or 10 months or four years, they will not have to pay a penny to the Horned Frogs to lure Patterson away.

Gary Patterson would definitely be high on the list I'd hope.

Al Golden is a really good coach as well. Kind of an unknown at this point but he's worked an absolute miracle at Temple so far.

I think so too. I mean he's got Temple running at a pretty high level..that's not possible.
