Urban never beat Bama while he was at Florida? Maybe not since Bama doesn't have to play UF very often but I thought he may have at least won one game against him.

edit: Oh yeah, even if he didn't do it at UF he accomplished the feat with Ohio State in the playoffs.

So what you are saying is that you are not happy with the offensive production and records that LSU has put over the past 3 games?

What Orgeron has been extremely smart in doing is recognizing that he has a Ferrari in the garage and instead of trying to be the mechanic, pit crew etc.... he is just the driver and let all the people around him do their jobs and he will do his!

So far he is driving this Ferrari like he is a Formula One champ!

Well you're going to have to break down and do google then. I came up with three right off the top of my head but I pretty much just keep up with LSU. I'm sure there are plenty more out there.

I'm sure there are also a thousand or so examples of great OC's and DC's that sucked as head coaches and are no longer in a HC position.

If there was a list of every head coach fired since the beginning of college football you could count on a large percentage of them being former OC's or DC's that were were considered good enough by somebody to merit a head coaching job.

Your question is pretty subjective though. Except for Tom Herman while at Ohio St, head coaches usually get all credit for wins and blame for losses. I know people who could tell you the majority of head coaches of teams in the top 25, all coaches in the SEC, ACC, B12 and quite a few if not most of the HC's in the B10 and PAC12. Myself included for the conferences but as far as coordinators go it would be a very low number - pretty much non-existent.

In the SEC I know LSU's coordinators and that's it. I know Houston's OC just from reading about Applewhite and the UT stuff today. Knowing who the CO's are is only half the battle. Whether they are good or great or suck is very subjective. Some people will think they are great and some will think they suck. If it's not the team they pull for they won't give a shite either way.

The list of the best coaches in college strongly correlates with the list of the list of head coaches who would be outstanding coordinators (if demoted).

Offense:
Spurrier, Peterson, Harbaugh, Meyer, Herman, Petrino, Fisher, Richt

Defense:
Stoops, Saban, Carroll, Patterson

The success of Miles was frankly something of an outlier when you look at the way in which LSU's offensive or defensive performances thrived or crashed with the gain or loss of outstanding coordinators. Worst of all was his meddling with offense when he frankly lacked the philosophical flexibility to change systems when opposing defenses evolved.

I really like Orgeron for his love of the school, his abilities as a recruiter and for how well he has handled the interim job so far. But his lack of ability to positively lock down excellence on either side of the ball simply makes him less of a good option than many other coaches.
