Fact: Jumbo Fisher has been in the ACS with top 5 recruiting classes every year and managed to play for a BCS NC the year an Auburn team that got thumped by LSU beat Bama on a missed fg. His team was nearly humiliated by Auburn when every player on his squad went to the NFL.

I think he would be a good HC only with Aranda as DC. Aranda will get HC offers.

Jimbo is never gonna be Les Miles, but he doesn't look to be the brilliant mind needed to beat Saban. Miles got fired because Saban. Tom Herman should have been pursued from the get go. Him and Aranda are literally the most brilliant innovative young minds in football.

All that good stuff and yet he's lost 3 or more games again. I like Jimbo but don't think he's the long term guy.

correct. They are the ones who watch games and really do not know what they are seeing. No understanding of football ins and outs. strategy/X's and O's.

That's a lot of words. Thankfully I don't need that many to rebutt all of it. Fisher's record without Winston...period. He's a good coach, but I don't think he is a great coach.

Yeah, he was certainly good at LSU but if you recall, people were ready for a change at OC. And the fact crowton came in and the offense seemed better immediately kinda took some luster off Jimbo.

I remember Jimbo's LSU offenses being good in 2001 and 2003, and ok in 2005 and 2006. I realize he had no QB in 2002 and 2004. And the stats were always there, but against a defense with a pulse he went extremely conservative. Of course he was working under Saban and Les who tend to be conservative.

Actually 2006 is hard to gauge. The offense was explosive against most teams, but fizzled against ole miss, AU, Florida. Then again, AU was dominated by refs and the Florida game was a flukey turnover fest that can't be blamed on a coach.

Also, we really didn't know what a "stagnant, predictable" offense really looked like back then. We sure as frick do now, though.

How many games would he have lost if Francois were, idk, a sophomore, junior or senior and someone named Dave Aranda were his HC?

Because that's what he'd be getting at LSU.

He lost Pruitt because Pruitt was fricking co-eds. When he had the DC he wanted, they were unstoppable.

Think he can't get defense going?

each of these defensive players went to the NFL.

quote:

Jalen Ramsey, DB, Jaguars

Ronald Darby, DB, Bills

Terrance Brooks, DB, Ravens

P.J. Williams, DB, Saints

Lamarcus Joyner, DB, Rams

Telvin Smith, LB, Jaguars

Terrance Smith, LB, Chiefs

Christian Jones, LB, Bears

Mario Edwards Jr., DL, Raiders

Eddie Goldman, DL, Bears

Timmy Jernigan, DL, Ravens

yes, your eyes are fine. That IS INDEED every player on his NC winning defense.

credit to mastrShake

every offensive starter was also drafted.

22 starters, 22 NFL draft picks

I assume he is one of those posters who drops a comment and then moves on. Never engages in dialogue, so it's hard to prove them wrong.

That entire team was stacked, obviously, and he took Winston out of Bama's backyard.

Somehow, that is a bad thing

Losing players to the draft is just one aspect of being a head coach that must be accounted and planned for. Looks like Fisher should have found a way to have better back ups and/or found a way to get them some experience before the upperclassmen left. Somehow the GREAT coaches manage to do this.

you don't need a brilliant offensive mind to beat saban, just a spread offense and some competent play calling.
