1) we've given up more big plays than any season of recent memory. 2) yards per play is terrible 3) Ask Gerry Dinardo what happens when a non-functional DC is kept around 1 season too long. Pellini needs to be steered towards a position coach job in the NFL

I agree he did agree to a really stupid contract. However O had him over the barrel. O had all the chips last offseason coming off of the greatest season ever. You can't shut down a head coach on hiring someone over money. Our boosters would have been livid and it makes the program look stupid. O made a really stupid choice in wanting Bo.

IF we lost a coach because we refused to go to market value or over people would be livid that we are running the athletic department like jews.

FWIW I much prefer overspending and bad contracts than not being wiling to spend the most or spend to be the best.

Like it or not winning in the sec is a money game, the teams that spend the most get the most wins. that means paying for more shadow staff, that means paying for OC and DC.

O has now returned all of his poker chips he earned from 2019 to the house.

If Ed wants to ride with Bo sure he can....but they can both be fired next year.

O won't be the first LSU coach to die on the assistant coach hill.

When you are historically bad you dont get another chance. He gone.

I think that is a HUGE misconception only believed by LSU fans. Certainly O had earned the benefit of the doubt in terms of his staff selections. But I don't think nationally O's demand is or has ever been as high as some here might want to think. Nationally the thought was he took a dynamic program, with a generational QB, and a young (de facto) OC and caught lighting in a bottle relative to his past coaching history. Unfortunately, that sentiment has been proven plausible this year.

I'm not suggesting Woodward should have picked the DC. But it ABSOLUTELY was within reason...and HIS JOB...to survey the market before offering a contract. They essentially paid Pelini Aranda money without the "Aranda demand." NO ONE was overly excited with the Pelini hire. And I suspect the booster would have wholeheartedly agreed with not overpaying for a DC just because the HC desperately wanted him.

Doing that eventually puts you in a bind because you are having to pay a ton of people to "not coach" along with hiring new coaches. LSU doesn't have an endless supply of money. And overpaying just because you "can" is insanely stupid. Aranda got $2.5 million because Texas A&M was more than willing to pay him a huge salary and LSU had to match. That's what happened when Michigan flirted with Les. LSU paid more because they knew someone else was willing to pay the guy they wanted to keep a ton of money. Pelini's name came out of left field. He was making $200k at YSU and the Nebraska buyout money stopped before the 2019 season. Still, Bo had no real sniffs a a bigger gig.

Maybe so. But when you are paying a bunch of bad, unnecessary contracts, you start to run out of money for that shadow staff. Particularly now that the athletics budget has been decimated with no end in sight.

Still, IMO LSU has to move on from Pelini. That's how they will sell the players, recruits, fans that they are "fixing" the disaster of 2020. Moreover, O is going to do it because he knows his seat is getting hot again and he has burned through the 2019 goodwill. The is NO OPPORTUNITY as good as LSU out there for O and he knows it. Thus, he's going to do whatever it takes to keep it.

To keep Bo Pelini would be a public relations nightmare. He has to go if he stays O will be fired. I don't care if O pays for part of Pelini leaving he has to go.

If O wants to hang his tenure here on Pelini go for it.

Make no mistake this should be Os last fricking chance hiring coordinators. LSU can't keep paying these buyouts. There are plenty of young good coaches out there that are actually a DC or OC in addition to HC.

He already spent his last chance in my mind. He should be given a few options pre-selected by Woodward and search committee and then let him give his input on those 3 before Woodward makes the decision.

Orgeron bad hires:
- Canada
- Ensminger (first time)
- Linehan
- Pelini

Orgeron good hires:
- Brady
- McMahon

The bad ones were WAY more expensive too.

Agreed, there is absolutely no upside to keeping Pelini. If O insists on keeping him and the Defense struggles next year, there will be more than enough support for starting with a blank slate.

It’s common knowledge Lou Tepper cost Jerry DiNardo his job at LSU when DiNardo refused to fire him

Dinardo as well. He died by the hands of his coordinators. Refused to make a change and was gone the following year.

The only way he goes is if he wants to, which is plausible

Keep an eye on Dan Quinn otherwise

I hope you are wrong too. This has been miserable watching an LSU defense this bad. Offense pre-Brady we all suffered watching that. But I can't remember an LSU defense being this bad. We are young but we have top-level recruits.

Hopefully, change is coming!

Idk that headset toss against Bama pretty much spelt out how O feels about his entire defensive staff.
