But I do know that LSU was close to hiring Lincoln Riley 4 years ago, and the smoke around that never rose to the point that his family openly took a private jet and TOURED BATON ROUGE while his team was in the middle of a playoff run. Regardless of how this turns out, the smoke/flames around this are absolutely real.

There's definitely fire here. Not just smoke but the thing is I think they backed Lane into a corner being Ole Miss that he didn't want to be in at this moment. I think that's the only hold up, I'm sure he has feelings towards his current team and he really was concentrating on their playoff run. But with Ole Miss interjecting like that giving him an ultimatum is what's driving all this. I don't think he's trolling. I think he was seriously considering staying at Ole Miss until then. But he also realizes too this may be his last chance to get a big job like this and be paid very well for it and he get the flexibility he wants to do it his way. He would be silly to not explore his options.

If you pull in all the information we know, it seems pretty obvious what’s going on.

1. His family has visited Gainesville and Baton Rouge.
2. He supposedly has an offer from Ole Miss that he hasn’t signed.
3. He’s tweeting how much he loves OM.

I do think he has interest in leaving OM, however for the right deal he’s not opposed to staying. Sexton is pulling strings to get the best offer on the table for each opportunity. Family will obviously have a say.

IMO, Lane will make a decision in the coming days. I don’t think there is any done deal with anyone at this point.

If it goes past this weekend and he hasn’t signed with Ole Miss then I think the probably of him leaving increases. If he’s staying he should want this drama done within the bye week.

and to me that is not a great reflection on Kiffin. I just think he’s playing us right now, he’s playing everyone and he may eventually be our head coach but we will have paid a kings ransom for all the drama that comes with him. He won’t be a stabilizing factor for this program in my opinion. It won’t be boring and he’ll get us lots of attention good and bad.

I agree with this, and if he signs with us there’s every chance this happens to us in a few years when Texas or Alabama comes open. But given the opportunity the absolute right call is to make the hire.

I think LSU and UF are being worked and that Kiffin / Ole Miss announce an extension right before or right after Egg Bowl.
