None of those resemble this year in any way. There was very little to no information that any of those coaches were interested or talking, much less COMMITTED to coach at LSU.

The information about this search has been 100 times more plentiful with respect to Kiffin as a candidate and as the probable hire. Its not even remotely close.

Herman never even talked to LSU even if Alleva gave him a call at some point which no one can even confirm. He very quickly took the Texas job.


Jimbo might have actually had a conversation given his relationship to Woodward but if you were around and following at that time then there were scant insiders on anything with respect to him.


Riley - as I stated in another thread, people were reporting he was talking to LSU but its more likely that the fact that he and Kelly share the same agent caused confusion that Riley was ever discussing the job with LSU.

When Riley recounted the process before being hired at USC it seems pretty clear they were the only school that he was ever involved with.

Yes, each coaching change season had some insiders here or there reporting on those 3 you listed.

The difference now is all the insiders are reporting virtually the same thing, the timing is right, and Kiffin seems to be a position to make the jump after a successful 6-year run at Ole Miss.
