Man, he would be the best man for the job. Look at places like Bama and UGA, they both made defensive hires with Saban and Smart. I mean Aranda took down Oklahoma which only goes to show that defense is still very relevant in todays game.

He knows LSU, and he knows the culture. He would bring a good culture to LSU and I don't know what his recruiting looks like, but we saw some really good players here when we was coaching.

I don't know if he will, but I hope he comes home.

I think it's pretty universally established that everyone on this board would be really happy with Aranda. Just because he's not my first choice doesn't mean I don't want him at all.

Most people like him a lot. Some don’t think he has the chops to recruit players to LSU.

I’ll be very happy if he’s the guy

Still riding for Riley though

Bad comparison. Mullen turned himself into a character at UF. Mullen thinks he’s the smartest person in the room and wants you to know about it. Aranda IS the smartest person in the room.

Also I don’t see Aranda trying to incite a riot during a game like Mullen did and then try to blame others after the game. Mullen is an absolute clown and that’s not a word I associate at all with Aranda.

Can you post some links that prove this because it gets repeated on here constantly but no one has made any real case for this.

I agree. He has always been a tier 1 candidate for me (along with Fickell and Riley). If we end up settling as some now believe, and it comes out that Aranda was never meaningfully pursued by SW, then that must be seen as a failure. While we may not want to believe it, it is entirely possible that SW fecked this up. Not catastrophizing; just speculating (like everyone else).

I really do like Aranda; always have. I just would prefer he had a more sustained track record. He's a great defensive mind and will always be dependent on his OC. In year one his offensive coordinator was Larry Fedora- an offensive coach with a great reputation. That offense didn't work out, so he canned him and brought in someone he was more familiar with- Jeff Grimes who he worked with at LSU and who led BYU to a record offense last year. So, it's working great this year.

But what happens if Grimes gets a head coaching gig and Dave has to hire another OC? He's batting .500 right now with one out of two, so how will he do with the next one?

He doesn't have a track record to beyond those two, which makes him a risk to me. Not saying it's a deal breaker, but you asked, and that's what I don't like about Aranda. If he had a five year track record at Baylor and had sustained success- I'd be all in...

This take is so lame and intellectually lazy it's pathetic. They aren't even close to the same personality. Aranda is an obsessive perfectionist, and Mullen is a flamboyant idiot savant.
