Years ago, Rich Rodrguez was fixing to be the Alabama coach, but his wife didn't like Tuscaloosa, thus he rescinded the offer.
Saban was introduced shortly after.
Don't always feel bad when the wife and /or ex-wife prefers something else. It just might work out for you in the end.

If he was staying at Oxford he wouldn’t be looking at Auburn, LSU, Florida. More than likely his family prefers Florida because it’s a very nice place to live and his wife is from there. Lane has to decide if he wants to go through Kirby every year. He can win at Florida or LSU he can’t at OM.

No one wants to live by their in-laws. I don’t care if they’re the best in the world, you still don’t want to live by them.
Layla's parents divorced when she was young and she was raised by her father, who has since passed away. She does have two siblings, do they live in Gainsville? I do not see this as overriding factor in the decision that Kiffin will make. I think the alumni/raised in is more of a minor factor than what is being projected by some. After all, when the Kiffin's split up, she did not go running "home", she continued to live her life in Manhattan Beach, California.

I’m 50 and the kids are out of the house. Don’t buy, build, move, or add on because of kids. Think of you and your wife.
