A guy at work asked me about how I felt about our new coach. He attends church here in Dallas with a close relative of Houston's recruiting coordinator. He said Herman had him stay home from the Memphis trip and develop a plan to meet with all of LSU's recruits. They all thought they were going to LSU. I guess it's another verification that the handshake was in place. Hope O does well. Dang it Texas.

Geaux Tigers.

I think it's fairly well established that LSU and Herman had a handshake agreement on thursday. Texas had failed to meet the deadline that Herman set and he took that as a sign Texas wasn't interested. Late Thursday, Texas entered the picture.

When Herman's agent called LSU to let them know that they wanted to hear Texas out, LSU rightfully knew what that meant. It's been known for months that LSU wouldn't win a bidding war with Herman.

That wasn't Alleva's sin. His sin was in having 6+ weeks to run a search, and he ended up with 2 guys and Orgeron and convinced himself it was enough. LSU could have started the search on Friday and not been "late". The coaching change season literally is just starting.

On paper, Orgeron is a terrible, terrible hire. Now, in reality we'll see how he does. But, this search and hire was an absolute failure.

most are melting at the process, or lack thereof.

i have no personal ill-will towards O, I just think LSU botched the process by not vetting more candidates, and just settling for what was the easiest option.

That's BS. Sorry. Alleva quit and did not even give himself a chance. He didn't make Herman tell him no. He pulled himself out of the equation at the first hint that Herman wanted to give Texas the courtesy of talking with them. He had been an assistant there. He probably did not want to burn the bridge with them. And Alleva played scared. So pathetic.

ETA - Maybe they get into a bidding war with Texas. Maybe they don't. But we'll never know because Alleva quit on the deal.

Herman is going to kill it at Texas and we're going to be sitting on the sidelines watching Spurrier 2.0. What could've been.

We hired a trained gorilla with a terrible resume to be our head coach.

did you see how many fans were going off the deep end when we didn't have a coach named last week? Now imagine if we were still searching

Don't agree with this at all.

Can't argue with this though. There were 5-7 candidates who all deserved interviews, at minimum, and this should be going on right now ending with the final decision sometime in January.

Instead, Alleva took the easy way out and pulled the interim tag off of Orgeron. Alleva fully deserves all of the criticism that he's going to get for this debacle of a coaching "search".

you're pretty much the only one who thinks he chooses LSU over Texas...what does that tell you?

Is that what I said? Do you struggle with reading?

ETA: Thinking LSU made the right decision by cooling on Herman simply because Texas called is ridiculous. Particularly when you have an interim coach locked in who could be hired as late as you want.

Alleva threw a hissy fit because Herman wanted to feel out Texas. Plain and simple.

this was no damn coaching search, it was a propaganda war waged by the incumbents

without details how do we know they didn't discuss other coaches?

who else would you have liked to have seen interviewed? and how many? isn't a search done to narrow the list of candidates you want to interview/hire?

Or it could be that they are trying to poach every LSU recruit.
