quote:How much of that was Helfrich and how much was Koetter? Koetter has done pretty well throughout his career.
He was apparently one hell of a QB coach under Koetter.
quote:Correct. He did poorly.
Colorado was a shite show of a team and he did so poorly Oregon hired him away.
3 years before helfrich:
2003: 26.6 PPG, 372 YPG
2004: 23.4 PPG, 339 YPG
2005: 23.5 PPG, 333 YPG
His 3 years there:
2006: 16.3 PPG, 291 YPG
2007: 27.3 PPG, 378 YPG
2008: 20.2 PPG, 318 YPG
quote:I don't think that he's really shown he could be a successful OC elsewhere. Chip ran that offense while he was there and Helfrich rode a great QB his first 2 years as the head guy. Since then they've nosedived.
I don't think anyone is implying he is the brains behind kelly's offense. Chip was a hell of an offensive mind at UNH long before he went to UO. But to act like he wouldn't be a successful OC because of a poor year at Oregon as the HC is shortsighted IMO.
His resume doesn't scream "Great OC" to me.

Oregon should go after Bob Stitt.
Posted on 11/29/16 at 10:52 pm to OneMoreTime
I'd say he's likely a better OC now than before his time at Oregon but it's obviously not a slam dunk. No OC we hire will be.

Me too actually, they looked good last year until that NDSU game

I didn't think so.

Chances kiffen gets it ?? I don't see on the 247 where ppl are wanting him

Quit trolling and go cry about the refs somewhere.. Not one poster there wants kiffen.. Most actually want fleck. I'm not saying it's kiffen but no one is sayin that there. He was mentioned in an article 247 Oregon insider wrote as a candidate though.

He is not trolling. Bama fans have been discussing the likelihood of this since Oregon has been stinking it up. The thought was it was just a matter of if the job opened up not whether Kiffen would take it.

Why? It's not like he was crazy succesful at Colorado Mines. In 14 years there, he only made the playoffs 3 times and past the 1st round once. His winning % there was only slightly better than what it is at Montana at 63% to 58%. I wouldn't have expected him to set the world on fire at Montana.

quote: Brady Hoke should have been fired. They jumped the gun and fired Helfrich... one bad season, he shiuld have been given at least another year Yeah. I guess I just feel bad for him. I've only ever seen people rave about how great of a guy he is

Stitt has been terrible at Montana by their standards. If they want a small college guy, it should be Beau Baldwin at EWU
Kiffin would be amazing and make me so happy
The only guy mentioned that concerns me at all is Dan Mullen. Was hoping USC would go after him last year. Frost would just be trying to latch onto another Chip lackey.

Some people in the know around here seem to think that is a likely pull. Mullen, at times this season, seemed to not give a damn.

Mainly all the hype around his offensive acumen.

Chip Kelly's going back to Oregon. Latest on Chip Kelly.

The only thing that would really worry me is his ability to develop a QB. He tried to rely on two grad transfers instead of any of the guys who have been on the team for a few years. Then went with the true freshman.
--------------------------------------------------
Helfrich obviously did a crappy job developing Darron Thomas and Marcus Mariota . . . The two combined for 33.6 TDs a year against 6 interceptions per year over five consecutive seasons.
If we are going to dog Orgeron for his years at Ole Miss, we don't get the luxury of ignoring the past developments and accomplishments of Helfrich against one bad season with a freshman QB.

I'm sure chip Kelly had nothing to do with developing Mariota and Thomas

That was all Kelly, all damn day.
