Thanks for the link, AW. I found that article to be very interesting. Here's an excerpt:
Caldarazzo wanted to campaign for Miles - making it known that other letterwinners didn't see a better coaching candidate out there for Michigan - to make sure he was in the mix. It gave him some solace last week when he heard Martin had asked for permission from LSU to talk to him.
And then Miles' chances of coming to Michigan all fell apart Saturday.
"He knew guys like myself, other lettermen, alumni could think of no better candidate and wanted him desperately to come here, but you still have to hear from somebody in authority," Caldarazzo said. "I think it's sad, because we had the No. 1 guy in the country - despite his connections to Michigan - wanting to come here."
All that we've heard from other fans and the national media is that Miles is not respected, Michigan might not want him, we're stuck with him at LSU, blah, blah, blah. It's interesting to see that many in the Michigan community wanted him badly and are upset that they didn't get him.
It sounds like the Michigan administration dropped the ball.

A.W. - As one "old one" to another - don't mind the harsh words too much. Some here just get a little frustrated at all the constant new threads on the subject.
For el tigre: if you believe Jacob Hester (and I don't see any reason not to), Miles told the unity council players quite a while back that he was staying. Miles tells seniors
I think there was also a quote from a recruit awhile back that said Miles told him if he came to LSU that Miles would be the only college head coach he would have or something like that.

Here's another article about behind-the-scenes tug-of-war that supposedly happened leading up to Dec 1:
When Les needed an answer, where was U-M's athletic director
Do we have a crystal ball (no, don't mean the MNC crystal, but the psychic kind)? No, we don't, but it seems like this quest for Les might be over at UM.

that is an interesting article that aged wolverine posted. I just can't see Les leaving though after the "angry man" press conference he put on Saturday. He will be public enemy #1 if he leaves...but then again it's his alma mater and he may not give a shite.

Man, it sure looks like the wheels are comming off at Michigan. If they continue to screw up their search for a coach like they have been, we might be looking at them making another run at Miles in a shorter time frame than we thought.
After they gave Carr so much time and he repaid them by pretty much scuttling their first choice for a coach, they might not be so slow on the trigger next time. Plus, it's gonna be hard for whoever they hire to overcome the inertia and entrenched interests.
So Les can stay here, let his kids finish school, give the Wolvies a chance to clear out the old guard and reconsider in say 5 to 7 years. Even 10 if they want to show how stoic they are. Give him a chance to add a few more pieces of hardware to his mantle piece and the Athletic building.

This Eric Werling guy's blog you posted ( go blue blog) is definitely maize and blue glasses material.
Several things in that blog are wrong. And you can bet Les' comments on Monday about not being contacted by UM was not his attempt to beg for an interview. It was his attempt to let the UM fanbase know that Bill Martin dropped the ball. The ship has sailed.

Unfortunately, I think the ship sailed with Martin in the Florida Keys

Don't trust what you read/hear in the Det/AA media. By their own admission, they have no source inside the search. They only have sources at Mich, and those just seem to have opinions just like the rest of us. But the media need a story-a-day on this so expect all kinds of "tales" to get told.
Bill Martin was in Fla. over the weekend hosting big $$ donors to the new football facility. Then he went to NYC for the College Football Hall of Fame Induction banquet. Gee all these folks want to know what is going on, but instead of following the one decision maker around, they are talking with admins, assts., janitors, in AA.
I can assure you that Bill Martin and Mary Sue Coleman are not hanging around the watercooler sharing their thoughts on the new football coaching hire with their staffs.
BM said he was taking this search underground, and it appears he has. It makes the media, fans, some alums and former players crazy that they can't follow it. But, they can't.
Now who was it that BM was having cocktails with in Fla. and NY?? Hmmmm...............

Personally I think you're right - the guy writng this blog is hanging onto a dream. I think Miles is going to stay put, and Michigan is going to have to look elsewhere. That said, if by some disastrous occurrence the scenario mentioned on this blog materializes, and Miles heads for Ann Arbor after the BCS Championship, the disdain for Saban that still lingers in Louisiana will be displaced by a much greater animosity toward Les Miles and UM.

True. Although, that would be the same week Jack Del Rio likely coaches his last game of the season for the Jags. Just sayin'....

bump for all you naive folks.
1 of 2 is done....still waiting on the other.

I'm just hesitant to believe any coach until the new deal is signed (which it is not), and the other school hires a coach (Michigan has not).
