The one that comes most readily to mind is Paterno (talking strictly football, not including all the other mess). I think you could put Bowden in there as well. And to some extent, I think even the Bear's team declined at the end.

Coaches who stay for a long period of time tend to bring the program full circle. Dale brown comes to mind. I don't recall what the state of Nebraska's program was in when Osborn left.

I never considered Mack Brown to be a great coach. I'd say he's closer to Gene Chizik than Knute Rockne.

Yes - He's 18-17 in conference over the last 4 years and 0-8 against ranked teams at home over the the same time period.

The better question is, long-term, will Vince Young indirectly do more damage than good to UT?

I saw the move of Sabin over to UT as an upgrade to their whole conference, forcing other changes at other schools, an SEC infusion of sorts - SEC WEST WEST
