Yeah that thought process literally blows my mind. How in the frick does O have any supporters left at this point ?

And why the frick would those supporters prefer him over proven winning coaches? It makes 0 sense.

I really don't get it.

Mind blowing.

It was before the UF loss too, but now? It's amazing really.

Baylor and TCU have basically made it into the big 12 and passed them during his time there.

Might as well hire Ogeron if it is Gundy

I bet a good percentage of the chair back seat people on the sidelines would take O over any of the other candidates right now.

Their logic is mind numbing and they have zero actual football knowledge, but have a lot of pull

HE MADE FOOTBALL FUN AGAIN

except those two miserable games we lost...

come to think of it it, football was pretty fun for the first 7 games of last year...

maybe beating shitty teams is fun?

If we miss on the top two, it would probably be the best PR move for Alleva, the ignorant masses would be appeased. It's kind of frightening now that I think about it....

I can't explain it, I've tried to understand but can't wrap my head around the thought process.

I know downvotes will rain my way but i think

Coach O has a meeting Friday to lay out his plan of the future with Joe? I believe thats what i heard. So i think, it was scheduled for Friday because thats how long Joe has given himself to land Jimbo. If he puts on the press and cant get it done by then I believe its Os job given that circumstance.
If not, why even have that meeting? Thats my .02 anyways

I have a really, really bad feeling this is exactly what's happening.

Probably a meeting to let him know Joe would like him to stay on staff regardless.

He's not gonna be the HC dude.

They said they would give the guy a chance and they are keeping their word. They should do that.

What I am hoping is that they are doing it to keep themselves in a good relationship with O to try and keep him on the staff when they hire someone else.

Could be that too. I was just wondering why publicly say this is a meeting to talk future vision of the program

To me, the argument isn't that difficult:

a) really weak field of candidates
b) if you can't secure jimbo/herman then a bunch of question marks

Assuming you agree with a and b it becomes a question of cost control and risk management.

Can't announce right now that he isn't the coach when we haven't named a coach.

Don't look into the specifics of what Alleva said there. He's checking boxes.

And in a weak field O has the weakest resume, it's not really close.

Seriously, if O were currently the interim at another school and someone started a thread suggesting him for this job it would get downvoted and ridiculed to hell

Because you want to keep him as DL coach. He would've stayed at USC had they not disrespected him after his interim stint. They didn't even interview or ask his opinion on who the coach should be. Basically said thanks for salvaging our season and kicked him out the door.
