He's far from a guarantee. That's my point. Another way to look at is that texas is giving strong the chance to finish on a good note and save his job because they have not gotten the feedback they'd hoped to get from Herman. If they finish 7-5, 4-1 in the last 5 games starting a bunch of true freshman and sophomores, it's gonna look silly to fire him. The fact that texas has left that door open is telling.

I agree with you

Texas is going play both sides. Support strong, but behind the scenes go after Herman. Nobody will hear anything about it until here's signed as UT coach. If Herman ends up at LSU, Texas was "committed to strong the whole time"

If Charlie got fired it would be white lash.

Actually feel kind of bad for Charlie. I think next year he turns the corner, if he's given the opportunity. Which is pretty damn good when you consider the shape that program was in when he tool over.

Some people in this thread are in serious denial

The Texas boards are in meltdown mode -- they want him fired yesterday

Too bad message board posters don't make those decisions huh. It's kinda funny that people like you think Herman would somehow not be the least bit put off by the texas mob mentality. I'm sure the way they've been out to get strong since day 1 is appealing to any coach

If he wins the last two, he stays. You can bet on it

You mean journalists who are trying to stay relevant while being used as a mouthpiece by someone with an agenda?

I don't think they boot him yet. He has not had time to be established. I think he gets another year.

the Longhorns drop to 5-5, which is enough justification for him to be fired. Sorry, Charlie.

I posted after the Oklahoma loss that Strong was done no matter what he did the rest of the way. This came from a HUGE big money booster at UT that is a close, close friend. He repeated it to many numerous times even when UT was winning after the OU loss. This game didn't change a thing.

Yeah, sadly there are a lot of LSU fans who want so desperately to believe that they're getting Herman, not to mention all the preaching (and over exaggerating) about the backlash Texas will receive if they fire Strong, at the same time knowing damn well that if it were LSU, they'd be calling for the coach's head. It's pretty darn obvious to anyone outside of the LSU circle that Strong is gone and Herman is next in line.

My buddy, and if I gave you his name and you googled him you would say "yep he knows," said that they will not lose Herman to ANYONE and that Herman is their first, second, third and fourth choices for the job. He said they will literally have an open checkbook and all that anyone else can do, that is going after Herman, is cost them more money but they will not lose Herman due to finances. He said that Herman will make more money at UT than anywhere else, and I believe him. He thinks that LSU being in this race will cost UT an extra $1mil per year to get Herman but he said UT will not lose Herman to LSU and he said he would bet me a trip to Hawaii on that.

You couple the cash with UT's program and that is truly a hard combination to beat.

Ok I will bet! Tell me what the stakes are and you can make them as expensive as you want, I will match anything you want. Strong will not be coaching at UT in 2017 period end of story.

Since you are an LSU fan I will try and help you save money before you make the bet. My source is one of my closest friends he is one of the named big money boosters at UT. And that Strong info is coming straight from him. I can promise you, he knows what is going on inside the UT athletics department and in particular the football operations.

That being said my offer still stands. I will take any bet you want that if UT wins the next 2 games, in any fashion "including 60 pt blowouts," that Strong will not be coaching at UT next year!
