Yeah, I'm personally not interested in Helfrich either. Not a fit here IMO or a fit for what O wants going forward.

Why? I think a power spread attack with our horses would be absolutely filthy. And what offense does O actually want going forward? I don't believe he's been entirely clear on that

When LSU played Oregon in 2011, tons of people on here were saying the Oregon offense can't handle SEC defenses. What has changed?

I used to be ok with it as well (fired HC back to OC), but after Cameron (fired HC back to OC), Crowton (fired HC back to OC),

Cameron was fired as OC from the Ravens. Crowton was a Broyle's finalist as an OC at Oregon before coming to LSU. Either way, this is some lazy logic. Just because we've made bad hire of former HCs to be our OC doesn't mean there aren't coaches out there that aren't qualified to be the head man but can be successful coordinators. Plus you have to remember the common denominator behind these OCs failures at LSU. Leslie Edwin Miles. His fingers were all over it

This has less to do with the system and more to do with the horses.

This kind of talk centered around the SEC being full of huge, fast, NFL-caliber defensive lineman.

The argument was that the offensive lines for these spread teams couldn't handle the monsters up front.

The argument now would be that an SEC offensive line is used to trying to manage these animals and would be better suited to execute the offense.

Put LSU/SEC talent in that kind of scheme and I think it could certainly succeed. But who really knows? I'm not sure there is a slam dunk offensive coordinator we could hire and there's going to be a risk regardless. Our head coach is a defensive line coach for god's sake

I think it's more homerism.

Helfrich at Oregon = can't handle SEC defenses
Helfrich at LSU = GOAT

I agree this can be a factor but I told you what the "logic" behind it would be.

LSU did background work on offensive coordinator candidates Thursday, a person with knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports.

These assholes still haven't learned to keep their mouth shut. It's bad enough they waited until Kiffin was "off the board" to start searching for other candidates. We are fricked

This is relatively new as O told everyone it was Kiffin.

When discussing names Grimes chimed in and gave his support for Helfrich as he's worked with him in the past and they understand each other well and same blocking scheme.

Hilfrich's schemes are not soft. He uses zone reads both inside and out, counters, traps, lead plays, double teams, and power run plays. Any run play that you can do from a pro offense he has them. Ohio State uses the same run schemes in their offense and they don't seen to have any problems. The deference between the two is to tempo and that can be easily adjusted.

Outside of 2016 Bama D which is one of their best ever, there are no defenses in the SEC today that rival our 2011 defense.

A&M doesn't struggle offensively in conference. I think Helfrich would likely do well with LSU level talent.

Still prefer Canada but would take Helfrich.

In that 2011 game Oregon scored 27 pts on one of the best defenses ever. I would love to have seen that same 27 pts vs bama this year.

This article tells me one of two things:

1. Dan Wolken (the author) is getting his info from Tigerdroppings, or

2. O's OC search is being conducted on TD, almost as if he has some staff members comb the coaching changes board to see who the fans recommend.

***Quick, let's test the theory. Someone start at thread suggesting Dale Weiner as OC. Let's see who is the first media outlet to run with it!!

Marcus Mariota? Does he not count for some reason that I don't know about?

'm sorry but I have ZERO interest in Mark Helfrich. Name one QB he's recruited out of HS and developed at Oregon? He hasn't. Relied on 1AA transfers for two consecutive years. That plus his soft scheme would be a disaster h
