I meant that he wasn't coming to be solely the LB coach. If he comes he will be the DC as well as the LB coach.

Ok,so Chavis + Coach O + a really good DB coach. What about a QB coach while we're at it? These young QB's need direction and they need someone on the sideline and not just in the booth during games.

I can't see Chavis getting that excited to coach a Clemson team right now. So, this makes it sound like it is LSU among all the other rumors floating.

I haven't seen belowpar say anything definitive about Orgeron. Last I heard, it was very much up in the air.

Add to that the fact he says "Jan 2,3,or4". There is no real reason to delay an announcement if the choice was Clemson.

Their only other interview that made it public was Rhodes. But he took the HC at Iowa St.

Well, the same could be said about LSU's defense after the way they performed this season. Truth be told, Clemson's defense performed better than LSU's this season.
All that aside, Clemson board has been saying that their HC has said since the 1st interview with Chavis that no hire would be made until after the bowl game. Thus, this Jan. 2, 3, or 4 date that Chavis said could very well mean Chavis is still in contention at Clemson.
Also, to add to this, Clemson website says Chavis is Clemson's leading candidate and that a package is being put in place to adequately compensate Chavis comparable to what he was making at UT. When I read this, and regardless as to whether LSU can put together a better package for Chavis or not, it does not appear that Chavis has "decided on LSU" when there are apparently negotiations between his agent and Clemson concerning his package. So, with that being said, I'm not sure Clemson is the team that has been eliminated.
