They need somebody to get them through probation. They really should look at Matt Luke.

Forgive my ignorance, but does that mean they offered 6 years at 5.5 mm per year?

Tad more than Freeze at his OM height. Also due to weird state laws OM can't offer more than 4 yrs guaranteed.

FSU did the simple math on how to edge OM out

Wait, what? But yeah, Norvell isn't happening. Ole Miss would have to get into the 6m range, which isn't a possibility and would easily be counterbid even if the administration could somehow pony it up. Welcome to Oxford, Billy Napier. Yawn.

Yeah it's some goofy arse law that MS govt employees can only be under contract for 4yrs max. I guess to dissuade corruption?

It gets brought up every time OM or State has contract negotiations with a notable coach

Neal is saying Kiffin prefers Ole Miss to Arkansas and wants the job "bad"
Copied from the Ole Miss board. Fwiw, Neal is a beat writer and is typically one of the more realistic Ole Miss guys. He also said "Norvell was Ole Miss' to lose" as recently as yesterday, so take it for what it's worth.

Maybe Memphis will counter?

If true , it shows you how stupid the administration at FSU is.

I think a day or two ago that may have been the case. From what I've read (bs internet rumors) FSU had other people above Norvell and were setting the football stadium up for the announcement/press conference, only to take it all down yesterday. So, maybe what they thought or had planned fell through and went to Norvell.

All the chatter on here was that it was Campbell and ISU ponied up with an extension so he stayed.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that conference was set up for Campbell and he backed out last minute. In my opinion, FSU is having to dish out 5.5 just to fend off Ole Miss at this point. They can't hire Odell Haggins and they know that. The programs over at that point. They whiffed on everyone else. Being an Ole Miss fan I certainly have no right to laugh, but Florida State is having to offer a 38 year old HC with zero Power 5 experience almost 6 million dollars just so they don't have to settle for some alma mater lifer position coach.

That's just great

I would "settle" for Odell over Campbell or Norvell.

I guess the morons at FSU want to match the Gators for two consecutive bad hires.

If you'd settle for Odell Haggins over Mike Norvell and Matt Campbell, I'd like to see you get your wish. Fwiw, Norvell is going to kill it in Tallahassee
