Why would you want winning coaches to "conform" to the Texas way? If they don't want something different, why didn't they just hold on to Mack?

The problem with Gus or Jimbo is they have this game coming up almost a month from now and until that game is over there is no way that either of them is going to spend 10 seconds looking at other jobs. Both of them have worked their entire lives to have a chance at a Natty and it is right there for them. Assuming they win (or really regardless) there is no way their first thought is "Cool, got that over with so let me go interview at Texas!"

Texas can't wait that long either. You can't wait until Mid January to hire a new coach and give them 2 weeks before NSD to install a staff and recruit. They also can't take a risk that one of those coaches gets cold feet at the last minute and they are starting over once again.

It would just be more productive to stop mentioning Jimbo and Gus for the Texas coaching search, it just isn't happening.

I'm sure texas would be fine waiting to mid jan if its nick saban. Nothing better for texas folks than having saban blow out OU in the sugar bowl only to accept the Texas job a couple days later.

You think Saban was moldable?

Saban would have required the whole damn state to be moldable to his way.

+1,000,000

I have many relatives that are UT alums. The "Texas" attitude would have never mixed well with Saban. They may have said at first "Ohh yeah, this is your team. Keep doing what you do best, coach" and then slowly try to force him to become a political figure.

UT definitely needs a "big splash" hire to get things going in the right direction, but unfortunately for them the "Texas way"/LHN garbage will keep interest relatively low with big name coaches. I think the AD/Boosters/Alumni will have a truckload of confederate money that no big name will want.

How do we know that Gus isn't a one year wonder? He hasn't shown yet that he can sustain a program. Texas would be foolish to hire Gus at this point in his career.

Gus won one BCS title and is playing for another one.

He certainly deserves the lion share of 2010 especially seeing what a loser Chizik was.
