I hope they don't rush him. The earliest I'd like to see him is somewhere between the all star or September call ups next year.... and that's only if he gets moved up to AA within a week or two and finishes the season out mashing and then makes a strong case to start out AAA next year... I just don't see the point in rushing him.
For all the crap we've taken over the past 3 years, today is a glimpse into the future for the tried and true Astros fans. Fans of other teams can laugh at us about how excited we're getting about this but those fair-weather fans would have turned into Ranger or Braves fans 3-4 years ago when the process was started.

I tip my hat to all of my fellow Astros fans. It's officially started.

Don't get me wrong, I love them. It's just part of the joke me and my buddies have come up with.

Bingo. It's just the peacock/look at me stuff, though. I call those guys 'Shane'... your stereotypical offshore worker, in off a hitch for a week, maxes out his credit for a monster truck F250 so he can look like a "boss", doesn't go out with guys from work because he likes to drop "company man" as his job title, etc etc. It's just for grins, I've never come across anyone that fits that description. It's more of an embellishment of the stereotype everyone else has about Lafayette.
I'm not trying to make any enemies. This guys an outsider coming in, just giving him the perspective of another outsider who jumped in. Just giving him a run down. And you are spot on about every town having their own version of oilfield trash.

Like I said, I'm married to a girl from Lafayette, I obviously like the culture and the people. I think we can agree though that the town eats up fads and still is small town USA with everyone (for the most part) knowing everyone to some extent.

My wife is from Lafayette and this is spot frickin on.

I've lived there and a couple other places. I've got my pros and cons, too.

They have some pretty nice people over there, but you can tell many don't get out of Acadiana, much. I guess for everyone else around the state looking in, it is pretty comical how different they are from the wrest of the state. The whole red's/guido culture is something you'll have to get used to quick if you're younger.

I guess what my friend Snatchy is getting at is that it's very easy to stand out if you don't fall in line with the Lafayette mold. Lafayette guys like to get into pissing contests about how much money they make, who they know, how in shape they are or better yet, how much they know about the oilfield.

Damn, Calhoun hurt him on that one...
Just a reminder to my fellow Astro fans, here's a link to stream any game in real time. Enjoy

Astros game stream
The popups will piss you off but once you actually get the game on you're in the clear. Seems like it's working fine. I'm checking out the yankees vs blue jays spring game and not having any problems.

Edit: Note that in order to close most of the pop ups, look very closely for "close".

I used a website that would stream the games. The video quality was a little splotchy but it worked. I posted it once on an old DAT, I'll have to look it up for everyone.

Edit: MLB Game Streaming
I'll stand by my theory on whose to blame....

Back when I was a teenager playing sports, namely hockey, I had a pretty bad case: ankles, knees & elbows. Pretty much anywhere pads were rubbing constantly. During the summer it would clear up due to the sun light. Creams helped a little bit but I'm sure these days they have more advancements in that particular area than they did.

Can't stress enough how sun light would clear it up quick. Maybe try a tanning bed.

Could anyone see Wallace being a Chris Davis like player eventually

The Rangers wrote off Chris Davis because he was essentially an AAAA player - not good enough for the Bigs but too good for Triple A

Maybe not as big of production as Chris Davis but at least give him another shot

Heard the same said about Carter
Well FWIW I use a website that streams all of the games. I just plug up my laptop to my TV using an hdmi cord. The quality is a little grainy, but hey, it's 'stros baseball on TV.

I'm on the fence about Wallace. Those projected full season stats look a bit better than what I have pegged in my head if he were to be an every day starter.

My issue with him lingering around is that he'll take away at bats from guys like Guzman or, considering either has a great spring, Amador & Singleton. I just would like to see someone else at this point.

They didnt "stick to there number", they came up with a number big enough to make it a story but not big enough to actually be a real contender for his services

Yeah, and I'm sure they would have shite if he said "Ok, where do I sign..." I can only imagine what Crain would have told Luhnow... "I thought you said he has 3 offers north of 140?!? Damn it, now I have to pay this guy!"

re: Astros made run at Tanaka

I'm glad they stuck with their number rather than paying Cy Young type money to a guy who hasn't pitched an inning in the MLB.

We'll see how things play out with the other FA SP's. I'm on the fence about our rotation in terms of not rushing guys like wojo, trop, folty and of course Appel vs signing a guy like Garza or Arroyo to go with Feldman, cosart, etc. Being that Tanaka is only 25 helped with the spending issue, but the others guys that will only be looked at as 2's or 3's in other teams' decent rotations is hard to overlook and overspend...

You think Saban was moldable?

Saban would have required the whole damn state to be moldable to his way.

+1,000,000

I have many relatives that are UT alums. The "Texas" attitude would have never mixed well with Saban. They may have said at first "Ohh yeah, this is your team. Keep doing what you do best, coach" and then slowly try to force him to become a political figure.

UT definitely needs a "big splash" hire to get things going in the right direction, but unfortunately for them the "Texas way"/LHN garbage will keep interest relatively low with big name coaches. I think the AD/Boosters/Alumni will have a truckload of confederate money that no big name will want.

Exactly, much like Georgia State, Alabama State, University of Ohio, etc etc. If it helps them better market their school and brings more money into the state, have at it. ULM fans should be the guys starting threads like this, not LSU fans.
