Saban said that Steele is extremely organized when it comes to recruiting

thus he was in charge of recruiting operations at Bama

Recruiting will get a big bump....we should land top 4 recruiting classes left and right now...

Precisely. So why is everyone bleeding all over the internet? Grow a pair.

I don't get it. When did recruiting well matter this much to LSU fans? Doesn't LSU recruit top five every year? When is the last time LSU lacked talent? Seems like a positive spin on a ground rule double hire.

Ever since Saban went to Bama and we started losing first round homegrown talent to conference rivals. It's the biggest burr under our skin.

How can anyone be concerned that our new DC will be less X and O oriented than Chavis? The Defensive philosophy was pretty conservative/vanilla. It relied on getting great push up front, stopping the run and man coverage in the back.

-I don't feel Haley is a better DL coach the Bebe.
-Raymond is still here.
-I was never impressed with Chavis coaching of the LBs, they were solid run stuffers (usually) but not good at applying pressure or coverage.

I'm fairly confident Steele/Ogeron/Raymond can implement as good a defensive game plan as Chavis/Brick/Raymond. We will likely get the added benefit of an occasional LB or safety blitz. Hopefully on 3rd and long.

Plus, we still have another coach to hire later in the year.....

Maybe they will be on the Defensive side too, or maybe they will be a QB guru (although we already have 2 of those on staff).

recruiting well

Has to happen in every class, in every region at every position or you start to slip - you cats have an overwhelming recruiting advantage, nationally, over the past 5, 6 years - and you lost to Ole Miss and were bloody lucky to escape Fayetteville and Baton Rouge with wins - and that's just in your own division.

So, we care - all the time - about recruiting well.

Question for Frank Wilson: Who the hell is in charge of QB talent evaluation and recruiting? They need help.

That's an excellent question. Keep in mind that AJ was fairly highly regarded out of HS and Harris was way up there - #1 on some lists.

And the jury is still out, particularly on Harris - even as a freshman, he showed flashes of maybe being "the guy". But, dude's is just now 19.

If Chavis, as reported by several different sources, refused to leave campus to recruit, then I can easily see him being lazy in the other aspects of recruiting. What is Saban most known for...besides being a prick..? Control & organization. This is what Steele will be bringing to the table according to Wilson apparently.

Miles with the checkmate. Who else does this? Just full blown all out ultra recruiting staff? And now everyone has to deal with it for an entire year before they can play catchup

Kevin will organize our defensive board from top to bottom, and that's what we needed.

What does this mean?

I have seen no one and I mean no one say "Kevin Steele is a great defensive strategist, great defensive game planner, great defensive x's and o's guy or is really good at making in game adjustments. All I have seen is spin like the statement above, or he's a great recruiter, or he's a great organizer, he's coached under some of the best and along side some of the best. Nothing about his abilities as a DC or why he will be a great DC.

The point has been made before. Chavis was vanilla most of the time it's not like there were a lot of complex blitzes etc. The D was solid but it wasn't some innovative chess masters gem.

Hopefully Steele keeps it simple and attacks a little more on 3rd. Get more talent on the DL and LB and we're gold IMO.
