For the record, leaks didn't cause last year's deal to fail. Jindal and FKA did.

So we can get that out of the way.

If it means we get Herman this year instead of Jimbo last year it will have been for the best.

Agreed and upvoted. Now that the Gestapo is policing and removing nearly all of the threads, there is no use for this board anymore.

Leaks caused the media backlash and the rush of fan support for Les, both of which pressured our inept leaders to frick up the deal.

So they're just dusting off last year's contract, sending it back over for a signature. Easiest hire eva.

The leaks, along with the public statements that Miles was playing for his job the last two weeks of the season, actually did play a big role. They created a tsunami of negative sports media coverage on the situation. They drew attention at a time, especially over last Thanksgiving weekend, when nothing was going on in college football. Where Texas is getting shredded right now, we were getting that treatment this time last year.

That negative coverage contributed to the politicians and Alexander getting involved. Politicians are all about perception and when the talk of the state and the school being broke while paying a buyout became a media narrative, they bit.

So, yes, the people you mention actually did make the moves that killed the deal. However, it was all of the talk and Alleva's public pronouncement after the Ole Miss game that touched things off. The leaks and negative press over that next week just fueled the fire. They still played a big role in how it all went down.

This time is different, even with leaks here and there. We aren't going to get all of that negative attention now, because we already got it. Miles was fired early enough that all that talking has been done and is past. Texas has the negative spotlight all to themselves right now. LSU is just another coaching search.

The local media run with the things they read on here. ESPN runs with what the local media puts out there.

Best way to frick up a deal is to have ESPN headlining stories about Jimbo leaving days before he wants it out and before he signs anything.

The leaks last year caused a pretty terrible shitshow.

If it were a groundswell of support to get rid of Miles, Miles would have been gone. I agree with you.

Only the ones with members of our dumbass fan base claiming they have "sources" saying its a done deal.

Leaks alone wouldn't have been big news. Alleva's public pronouncement that Miles was literally playing for his job is what gave the leaks weight and credibility for national discussion. Leaks don't mean anything if there isn't a job opening. If there is a possibility for an opening, then those leaks suddenly get front page coverage.

Right, but Random LSU Hero is a somewhat reliable source.

"CajunTiger19" who no one has ever heard of is not one (made that up). Random's threads have lasted a long time on here until they became pissing matches.

Great point. All of that wall to wall negative coverage and discussion really did galvanize support among his fans, and among many who were still on the fence.
