And on the flip side, what should Lane have done? Nobody should blame him for wanting to finish the season.

This is the NCAA’s problem and they need to fix it or it’s going to keep happening.

Ole Miss gives LK title of In-Game Coordinator. Ole Miss names an Interim Head Coach. Ole Miss gets a signed letter of understanding that LK is not to have any direct contact with any player until the conclusion of the season except for while the game is actually being played. Any violation would be penalized monetarily. Any player who defects to LSU will have to adhere to a free and voluntary defection. No coaching changes made in LK’s admin at LSU that come from Ole Miss until their season is over. Ole Miss hires a new HC and names him asap for their own recruitment needs.

Ole Miss loses with Honor. LSU maintains grace and mercy over their enemies.

They kept hoping he'd stay. Hindsight, probably should have suspended him with pay a week ago, with good wishes to aid his transition.

They could have sacrificed 2026 and let him coach to get the deal done sooner in exchange for time to lock up a great replacement

Sometimes you have to play the long game

Let him stay and coach through the playoffs.

Make him sign something that would prohibit him from discussing anything that could be perceived as tampering or an attempt to recruit current Ole Miss players to follow him to LSU

Get the new HC in the building ASAP to lock up the recruiting class, evaluate the current roster, and be able to pitch the current players with eligibility left on staying for next year.

The wild card would be whether or not Lane would have been allowed to start recruiting for LSU while he was still in Oxford

Hired a new coach and have him recruit and let Lane finish the season off and coach his team in the playoffs.

Which act of the school itself was whiny and spoiled?

Ole Miss isn’t the bad guy here, honestly

I'm happy to have Lane, but they did whatever they could. It's unfortunate this is such a slimy business these days.

Do as to what Tulane is doing with their departing coach...let him coach through the playoffs.
