It has an element of staleness to it. Most of the rest of the presumptive available field will have the fanbase more exicted than Kelly.

He runs what is expected at ND, especially after Weiss flamed out trying to change the way they did things. You do realize that Kelly ran a tempo spread at Cincy, right? It’s not like he’s not capable of moving back in that direction if he wants to win a title. That’s the only reason he would leave there for here.

Runs a clean detailed program.
His teams always play hard and are usually in every game. Builds out from the lines.
Hires great young coordinators every year.
