One season decimated by injuries and you never hear his name in the national media. Coaches should take this as a warning to strike while the iron is hot.

He was mentioned here quite often, but your point is still valid. Look at guys like Jeff Tedford and Greg Schiano. That could be Gary Patterson and Dan Mullens in three years.

I like Sumlin.

but, he did lose Holgerson to Okie State a year ago. OSU improved and UH fell a little. So, jury still out on Sumlin.

he'll be back up there. I actually think Sumlin did his best coaching job this season.

Name me someone else who's had his top three QB's injured in the same year?

Neuheisel!

oh yeah, according to the MSB, Keenum will get a 6th yr. Sumlin should be back on the upswing. he needs to find some defense though.

Wow, that happened to UCLA as well? I thought of those QB's came back that season. I believe Sumlin lost three QB's to season-ending injuries.

I agree with the defense part. I think that's one of the things that goes hand in hand with those kinds of offenses though.

Houston's offense ranked fourteenth in the nation in 2010 without its Heisman-candidate QB. Sumlin started two freshmen at the position and the offense kept on ticking. The jury isn't out on his offensive coaching ability; the question is whether or not he's capable of overseeing a defense that doesn't blow.

If Keenum gets that medical redshirt, you'll hear plenty more about Sumlin in 2011.
