By all accounts LSU only went after 2 coaches. Awfully hard to say nobody is interested when you are only interested in 2 people.

There are only a few elite coaches. Jimbo isn't one...Herman either, at least yet.
Saban, Meyer, and probably harbough.
That said, you are usually a reasonable guy. I wanted Herman, but LSU was an OC away from reaching the playoffs after a 2-2 start...under O. Keeping aranda was huge, and likely adding kiffin and watch out.

The problem is that this team will be gutted after this year and a tougher schedule. They aren't competing next year.

Hiring a coach depends a lot on timing you don't have control over. Meyer wouldn't have gone to OSU if not for his "heart problems", Bama got lucky. Elite coaches aren't just available.
