Think he couldn't have held out for an OC job?

He'll become OC when Pease leaves to become Boise HC later this week.

I'm a little surprised he didn't hold out for OC with UT/AU/Arky when Strong takes over one of those....

Honestly, I think it would have been a tough sale for Strong. Timing isn't right for Joker to be your OC when you are looking to upgrade your job.

Maybe. But he probably wanted to stay in the SEC and there's no guarantee Strong (who I think most would agree he'd eventually hook up with) ends up in the SEC depending on how things go.

Could be as simple as he just wants to get back to basics to find his footing again.

He did a great job recruiting IMO while he was the WR, and then the OC/RC. Recruiting for UK he had to find the talent that was passed over by other schools or needed to be developed, but that wont be a problem at all at UF.

Florida doesn't the recruiting problems UK does. But Joker brought in alot guys that weren't ranked highly at all, his focus was mainly skill position guys. That ended up having great careers at UK and alot of them play on Sundays. Like Randall Cobb and Stevie Johnson for example.

He didn't do so good of a job as HC.

I really laughed at this when I found out. How can anyone have respect for him?

He goes from being the head coach of an SEC program to a wide receivers coach on a team that has beaten him...

2012: L 38-0
2011: L 48-10
2010: L 48-14
2009: L 41-7
2008: L 63-5
2007: L 45-37
2006: L 26-7
2005: L 49-28
2004: L 20-3
2003: L 24-21

402-132 since Joker Phillips has been at Kentucky. Why in the world did they even hire him considering the fact they couldn't beat UF while he was an assistant. What made them think he could do it as a H.C.?

How will the players even respect him when they go in and stifle Kentucky's offense? It's a shame that we've had to deal with this fool for so long. I hope when Crazy Horse leaves for the Texas job that Joker becomes the head coach of UF so you guys can feel the pain that we've felt for the past 3 years.

You're kidding me right? You do realize that a position coach is more about the development of the player instead of wins and loss (majority of which on your list he wasn't even a HC for). If you look at the track record of WRs we've had when he's been WR coach (he was as OC) you can see pretty clearly that he's been successful at that spot. Was also at Notre Dame and South Carolina at that position as well.

How many fired HCs get carried off the field by their players?

He was a great WR coach and a good OC. Just couldn't manage a program. That "fool" was a large part of our success in 2007. I wanted him out as HC too but you're being ridiculous at this rate.

Joker Phillips is tight with some people in Texas and should be able to recruit well here. Along with Muschamp's time here, I can see Florida get some outstanding players from Texas. Supposedly Joker is Jamal Adams dad's best friend - Adams is a 2014 recruit and projected as best safety in the state.

Thanks for the update. We may target that kid, but UF doesn't really recruit TX. No point to really. Champ hasn't really targeted any TX kids, save Raulerson, sine being at UF.
