I appreciate the post.

What was the outcome of his efforts as described? How was the 1998 and 1999 Clemson Offense?

I'm not reading that jumbled wall of text. I already know that he was fired for failing at Clemson

Ensminger was QB coach and passing game coordinator for 3-7 Smiths Station High School back in 2009. We are in good hands.

This why I love the rant - I’m laughing out loud in my office.

1998 - Streeter had a pretty decent year, 150/282 (53.2%), 13 TDs, 14 INTs.

Running back by committee, but they weren't getting 4 YPC and only 11 rushing TDs.

Scoring was pretty anemic at 19 ppg (89th of 112)

1999 was a lot better, scoring increased to 26.8 ppg (52nd)

Streeter and Dantzler effectively split time in 1999 (I don't recall if it was an injury, benching or "2 QB" thing, but I'm just going off the stat sheet), and slightly improved versus Streeter alone in 1998 if you consider their combined stats in 1999.

Zachery had a better year as more clearly the feature back, 185 for 820, with 14 TDs (+ 2 receiving), which was more TDs than the entire team scored rushing in 1998 - their scoring really improved on the rushing side.

Gardner had over 1000 yards receiving in 1999 and Wofford had almost 800. Wofford was their best receiver in 1998 with only 535 yards (they threw more to the backs in 1998, and almost everything went to Gardner and Wofford in 1999).

Ensminger also took Jason Campbell at Auburn from a below average QB in 2002 before he got there to being a 1st round draft pick. I think his record as a head coach means very little in his effectiveness as an assistant. I actually think Ensminger is a good assistant coach. He is just not a good OC, and his poor resume as an OC speaks for itself in that regard.

lol, Steve was QB coach in 2003 whenever they went 8-5 and weren’t good. In 2004 Al Borges came in and Jason Campbell went from mediocre to very good. Steve was TE coach that year. Jason Campbell’s stats all increased after being coached by Al Borges, not Ensminger. Bring your propaganda elsewhere.

Does this describe the strategy of our AD also?

I believe it was 1997 and 1998 he was at Clemson.

This statement is so intellectually dishonest it makes my head spin.

Jason Campbell was not a good quarterback until Al Borges took over his senior year and completely transformed him. Campbell himself has given full credit to Borges for this improvement. It is actually damaging to Ensminger if you think about how Campbell did not improve at all under his guidance until Borges came in.

I wouldn't laugh so fast, yet. He had a senior QB, Nealon Greene, in 1997, as well as Priester to haul the rock.

They scored 24.3 ppg (62nd). Priester had almost 1100 total yards (almost 1000 rushing), and their primary receiver, Tony Horne caught 70 passes for over 900 yards and 8 TDs.

So, after his first year with all senior skill players, he had to break in Streeter (threw 21 passes in 1997), Zachery, who must have been a freshman, because he didn't have a carry in 1997, as well as replace Horne's production with Wofford and Gardner.

So he had a senior laden group in 1997 and was 62nd in scoring offense?

To be fricking fair, your dumbass Head Coach was an utter failure 10 years ago. So it's safe to assume that coaches won't change much.

They won 7 games. Teams do what they have to do to shorten and end games they win - 3 of 7 wins were 3 scores or more.

Now, the losses-

The good:
FSU (finished #3), 35-28 (only ranked team they faced, and FSU was a perennial NC contender back then)
Ga Tech, 23-20 (Good team, beat WV in their bowl)
Auburn (Peach Bowl), 21-17 (recall this was a team that beat us in September, 31-28, and we had Faulk, Tyler and Faneca)

The bad (and somewhat ugly):

Virginia and NC - not that losing to these teams was bad, but Clemson only scored 17 points in those games combined.

But from a raw stats standpoint, other than the scoring drop, there is nothing alarming about what he did at Clemson - TWENTY YEARS AGO (to beat that dead horse).

Just a hypothetical: your car needs breaks. Crucial element to a moving vehicle. You hire a guy and he tells you “Man I haven’t worked on brakes in 10 years but I’m your guy.” How confident are you?

Between pessimistically cynical and slightly, cautiously optimistic (but not really)?

Its really all we have to go on and I'm bored at work.

And having the 62nd ranked offense with a senior laden group and this:

quote:

only ranked team they faced (was FSU)

is pretty fricking horrible from a stats perspective actually.

That was their best quality opponent - by far - and they (the offense) did well.
