Ellis Johnson to become the next head coach at Southern Miss

Thats the word on the street here in Hattiesburg.
Johnson is the DC at South Carolina and has also been DC at Southern Miss, Alabama, and Mississippi State. He also was the head coach at the Citadel for 3 years.
Should hear an official announcement today or tomorrow.

He is 59 and this could be why Southern Miss hired him. They wanted someone with stability who wasn't looking to move up like Fedora did.

What happened with their OC? Wasn't he supposed to land the job? Or, at least, that's what I heard from somebody.

He interviewed, and was a finalist. I think the administration saw him as a Fedora type who would leave as soon as he got offered a better job. They think this is Johnson's final stopping place.

Would be a bit surprised if they announced today. Was td the finalist would be informed today or tomorrow with official announcement on Wed.

Well, just got a text that it is not done yet. He's in top 2. I still think he gets it and it gets finalized today/tomorrow. Think they (USM) are saying "top 2" as a negotiation tactic.
