So make Texas pay 7 million for him and cause them issues getting assistant coaches for big money. At 5 million that gives them money to throw at Aranda.

If LSU ponied up 6mil do you think Texas was going to be underbid?
We'll never know.
It's possible they just wanted a price raise. It's also possible if Alleva said "yes" that we would have stolen Tom Herman from Texas.
Don't you wish we'd found out?

So if he was Texas bound why didn't we make Texas fricking pay for him? That would leave less money to go after Aranda
Yall all know that they're college buddy's, huh?
What's going to happen if that goes down?

LSU was not and should not go into a bidding war with a coach. Herman was going to his dream job in Texas. Texas was willing to pay whatever it took to get him. Texas would have paid him $7 mil if LSU offered $6 mil. Not many options for LSU.
With the quotes from Herman saying there were problems with Texas it may not have even been a bidding war. Houston said they would pay whatever to keep him, obviously he went to what he considered a better job.
I guess we will never know what would have got him here since aleva tucked tail at the mention of Texas.

They put $10mil for 10 yrs on the table for Saban...
And Saban said no and took less money. Hmm... I wonder what would have happened if we had followed through.

That is where Herman wanted to go. If deals are similar, he is going to Texas. That is where he got his coaching start. He wanted Texas.
You don't know any of this.

He had the guts to tell him to frick off. Knowing the back lash from part of the fanbase. Tough decision but he made it. I respect him for it. It's easy to make popular decisions in a position of leadership the unpopular ones are where you show what you are made of. Time will tell, but I hope Ed Orgeron proves all of you wrong and wins on this stage.

I can dig it

Are you sure about this statement.

no, he would have used that number to drive texas to 6.5
Come hell or high water, Herman was going to Texas. For an unproven coach, with some mixed success at mid major, $6 Mil is too much. Let him go to the school of hard knocks on someone else's tab.
