Walk me through the logic of helping a conference adversary, that is on your permanent schedule, get more NIL funding and other resources to use against you and your team in head to head recruiting battles, both high school and portal,
There are presently a dozen and a half or so open positions and to date only one has been filled, by an out of work coach. If Saban were the choice and accepted the job, why not just announce it now, win the 2025 coaching carousel cycle, and let the man get to work on recruiting?

Saban was Verges first call. The numbers were sufficient, but Saban cant coach kids that wont wait to properly develop. They just move on instead

It is going to be Nick Saban as Head Coach of the LSU tigers
3 years @ 20million per season. Hard cap 3 years.
Lane Kiffin will be hired as Assistant Head Coach. Guaranteed Head Coach year 4. Financial terms and length of contract have yet to be finalized.
Saban turned down initial two offers. After turning all attention to Lane Kiffin, (and reciprocating interest) Nick Saban reconsidered.
In order to prevent all out chaos with Sexton in the middle of it, both Saban and Sexton brokered a deal to bring Lane into the fold.
Coach O, will ride shotgun as DL coach and ostensibly Director of Recruiting.
The idea had been floated to bring in Coach Pete Carroll (presumed lame duck coach with Raiders) as DC, and bring back the band.
While too early to call, it is more likely LSU will retain Baker in that role
