Did ESPN Screw Up Again?

ESPN reported that the Seahawks and Pete Carroll had reached an agreement that would make him HC and President in Seattle. But as of now no deal has been reached, according to a source with the Seahawks.
Negotiations are at a sticking point because Seattle does not plan on making Carroll President and giving him personnel decision-making power. They intend to hire a new GM and allot those powers to him. The source said Carroll views these plans as unacceptable.

Interesting to see what they hammered out. The personnel powers will probably be split among Carroll and the new GM/President rather than one having total say.

they have to conduct the "fake" interview with a black dude thats happening today i think

I'd bet the the new GM/President ends up being nothing more than a yes man to PC

Ummmm...they have to say that. While everyone on Earth knows the interview of the minority coach was a sham interview, they have to at least make an attempt to have it legit.
If you're in agreement with your first candidate, then your pretty much straight up admitting its a fraudulent interview.

i'd say eff to the rule, pay the fine, and hire my first choice.
Screw the NFL and their stupid rules. Petey will probably get fined for "having fun" during the announcement of him as being head coach. He'll probably point to the sky, say something like "I thank God for this opportunity." And, the NFL will see it as him trying to put the attention on himself and give him a 15 yard penalty.

SEATTLE (AP)—Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks do not have an agreement despite widespread reports but are closing in on a deal, according to a league official with direct knowledge of the coaching search.
The official told The Associated Press on Saturday the team is in “discussions” with the Southern California coach and do not plan on giving him the additional title of president. The official added the Seahawks will hire a general manager and coach separately.
“No, they do not have an agreement. They are not there,” the official told the AP, speaking on condition of anonymity because the Seahawks are not commenting.

Didn't the Lions get in trouble for this a few years back? Can't remember if they were fined or lost a draft pick.

Can a team interview only a black candidate(s), then hire him?

That does not seem fair. It seems blacks are getting special treatment.

I agree! Then again, isnt that always the case? Especially now that "their" president is in the White House?

You're absolutely right. But it's the rule, and not the poster that is racist. If I were one of those Rooney rule candidates, I wouldn't even show up.

Tang, doesn't One Pete leaving make you think bad news is on the way from the NCAA? No way One Pete has sucess in the NFL.

i'm thinking that some Asian should volunteer to be the token minority interviewee for every NFL job.
That way every team can interview him first, then hire the actual coach they want. That'd really teach those black guys.
(this is sarcasm)
