Did cutcliffe and chavis get along?

I think Chavis stays. Secondly, we are NOT in bad shape. There are a lot of good DC's out there in college and pro ranks.

The relationship had changed... in from 95-98 both were establishing themselves as coordinators and Cut got a HC job in 98. He left right before the NC game while Chavis stayed and carried the water during the Randy Sanders years.
Cutcliffe comes back after Sanders is run off and Chavis has become the #2 guy, assistant head coach etc. There was just some friction over the new roles.

Doubt it. Honestly, if I'm Chavis making 600-700 K at LSU, and looking at what's left talent wise at UT, I'd need Monte type money to come back.

i don' know how i feel about chavis. he's a solid coach, though i think we'll never be as outstanding as we were under saban and pelini. the other part of me though worries that if he does leave les will screw up the hiring and we'll drift back into mallveto territory again.

Chavis is replaceable, but WILL he be replaced with someone better? If not, which I have concerns, then it is by far better for LSU to have Chavis. With the retention of Crowton, the last thing LSU needs is to hire a subpar DC for next season, otherwise I could see shades of DiNardo 1998 repeating.

I fear we are about to be in the same boat. We replaced him w/ Monte, but just for 1 year. Now we are back in the market, and as UGA has shown, the market isn't good for teams looking for a DC.

I rather give Chavis Monte money or take a chance on someone who's never been a DC than to do that.

9 - 3 and the Rant would be happy to see anyone from LSU leave. Man, things have changed since I was in school.
Chavis already flirted with GA and got a salary bump. TN would have to overpay unless Chavis really wanted to go back. Things are much better off if Chavis stays put- probably on both sides.
If LSU signed Chavis to a new deal with no buyout or penalty for leaving, then thats on Alleva.
