i have heard a lot about this guy since the last coaching search. but i've always wondered why. sure i'd love to have him, but why would an NFL head coach that has had at least a moderate level of success be interested in a college job, especially LSU since he is not from louisiana and has not played or coached for LSU. so why would he come here?

He played with the Saints so is familiar with Louisiana. His wife is from LA and I think went to LSU. And he has a daughter currently attending LSU.
I think he would be good but the timing won't be. The Jags look playoff-bound for sure, meaning they will be playing into January.

5th best record in the NFL as of now. In other words he won't.

Before his contract got redone, he was really undercompensated, and his people were looking for the right fit at a top tier vacancy. Ours (3 years ago) was nearly perfect, from a position/location standpoint, but the timing couldn't be worked out and there were some communication problems between Skip, Jack and the search firm which seemed to put him off. It didn't matter ultimately because we couldn't wait for the pro schedule to wrap up, anyway.
That's why Bill Cowher might be the perfect storm. I like the possibility, if nothing else, and I hope they can at least talk to him. I do believe that he is going to take a job for next season(he has already sat out a season), but is more likely to take a pro job.

I like del rio would be great but you're right bad timing. I don't think Cowher is looking for a stepping stone and can coach.
